Rice County is Hiring an Election Judge Near Faribault, MN
Rice County is seeking self-motivated college students looking for experience supporting our Elections processes for the 2024 Presidential Nomination Primary Election. Election Judge positions are being offered throughout 2024 for ones interested in working with the Property Tax and Elections Department at Rice County. The hours can be as flexible as you choose to work around your college classes. Rice County is seeking to hire 4-6 Election Judges for 2024. IMPORTANT: The IRS treats election officials, including election judges, as W-2 employees for income tax purposes. Election judges are not “public employees” for purposes of the Public Employment Labor Relations Act (“PELRA”). Minn. Stat. § 179A.03, subd. 14(2). JOB SUMMARY: The Election Judge supports critical government infrastructure by assisting the Property Tax & Elections Department with administering Federal, State, County and Local elections and maintaining accountability for ensuring elections are in compliance with election laws. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS To be an election judge, you:
must be eligible to vote in Minnesota
must be able to read, write, and speak English
cannot be a spouse, parent, child, or sibling of any election judge serving at the Rice County Government Services Building
cannot be a candidate or the spouse, parent, child, or sibling of any candidate on the ballots in Rice County
must attend required paid training, in-person
CERTIFICATIONS: The incumbent must become certified as an Election Judge and complete absentee ballot board training upon hire. In order to comply with Minn. Stat. 204B.19 Subd. 5, you will be required to provide us, at the time of an interview, your political affiliation if you do not provide it on supplemental question #3. HOURS Temporary, 8:00am-4:30pm, including nights and weekends.
