Position SUMMARY: Graphic Designer / Catalog Layout Artist

We are seeking a Graphic Designer / Catalog Layout Artist who has a high understanding of current trends for consumer products, particularly Hard Toys.

Appropriate use of color, typography and photography is very important. Candidates will have a demonstrated history of taking pride in their work and paying close attention to detail.

We are seeking someone who can work independently to meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting. With excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle constructive criticism well. The ideal candidate will exude creativity, flexibility and a “Go get ‘em!” attitude.

A keen eye for detail along with a healthy mix of creative and technical know-how makes the Graphic Designer / Catalog Layout an indispensable — and in-demand — part of the creative team.

They are the final checkpoint in a creative design process. They review final copy, layouts and content in print or digital form. They ensure brand standards across color, font, production quality and more.

You will scale and crop, retouch, change layout and eliminate redundancy in copy.

Position Responsibilities: Graphic Designer / Catalog Layout Designer

· Create final files for print for all catalog projects

· Ensure that files prepared for print are complete and accurate

· Apply design skills to create ads, signage, and graphics

· Perform basic digital image editing; clipping paths, color correction, clean up, drop shadows, cloning

· Prepare digital images requested by customers and publishers for print and web

· Continue to update computer skills and experiment with new software updates and programs

· Perform other related duties as required and assigned

Education / Experience

· Prior work experience in graphics or layout is preferred

· Retail experience helpful

· Bachelor’s degree in design or related field required.

Desired SKILLS

· Must be proficient on Macintosh platform in Adobe InDesign & Adobe Photoshop

· Understanding of perspective, light and shadow

· Some basic illustration skills

· Basic mathematics skills for calculating document specs and color formulas

· An understanding of offset printing methods and requirements is a plus

· Must have graphic design skills, advertising design skills, understanding of typography, mock up construction

· Organizational skills are essential

· Communication skills includes effective oral and written communication skills including the ability to present ideas, and/or facts and recommendations effectively

· Excellent follow-up skills with the ability to multi-task

· Ability to work independently with little direction

· Ability to keep up in a fast paced, deadline-oriented work environment

· Superior page layout skills

· Must be able to work quickly but also remain extremely detail-oriented

· must have the ability to manage tasks under stress

· Work closely with art directors, designers and developers

· Prepare final press-ready files based on supplied specifications for several types of execution; print / digital/ etc.

· Willingness to occasionally work overtime to meet publication deadlines

· Candidates are always finding new efficiencies in their workflow

· Troubleshoot problems as they arise with both the creative team and the printer

Technical

SOFTWARE PROFICIENCY: mandatory software skill sets needed include:

• Adobe Acrobat for PDF manipulation
• Adobe InDesign for page layout
• Adobe Photoshop for image editing
