Retina Vitreous Surgeons of CNY PC is Hiring a Medical Billing Specialist Near Liverpool, NY

Interested in joining a growing specialty physician practice? Retina-Vitreous Surgeons of Central New York could be your new home. We are seeking experienced medical billing candidates to join our team.

Responsible for following up on medical claims by insurance companies that have not been paid or have been paid incorrectly. Processing or correcting claims as needed, by performing the following duties.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)

  • Demonstrated experience working with all types of insurance including Medicare and Workers Compensation.
  • Experience working with high patients balances.
  • Working insurance claims in an organized and structured methodology.
  • Demonstrates the ability to stay organized and comply with insurance billing regulations.
  • Reviews patient’s demographics and insurance information and completes all necessary billing screens as per office policy.
  • Utilizes Insurance Portals and other means to status unpaid claims.
  • Performs insurance authorization for office procedure as required and documents insurance authorization numbers required for payment.
  • Answers calls from patients regarding their account(s).
  • Answers calls from other office staff, regarding insurance/authorizations and lends support to the clinical staff by obtaining authorizations for injections.
  • Take credit card payments from patients to be reconciled to open accounts.
  • Assist and enroll the patients in the foundations for drug balance assistance.
  • Works with other Team Members to verify correct billing and payment of our charges.
  • Review and formulate insurance trend data to identify payer issues.
  • Submits requests to insurance carriers for appeals of denied claims when necessary.
  • Provides supporting documentation to insurance carriers as needed to allow for maximum reimbursement as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • HS diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of medical billing skills required
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes at a comprehensive level
  • Equivalent combinations of education and work experience will be considered

Equipment, Machines and Software Used:

Ability to operate a computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, photocopier, and postage meter. Computer Software: Nextech, MDI and Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel and Word.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Computer proficiency including word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, and generating reports using standard software applications.
  • Adherence to HIPAA requirements and compliance standards.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Good communication skills including verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization structure.
  • Some analytical ability to gather and summarize data, find solutions to various administrative problems, and prioritize work.
  • Skill in organizing and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Must be detail-oriented and well organized.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and data files.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Demonstrates professional appearance, manners, and decorum.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with patients, physicians, and other staff.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, crouch, bend or kneel, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists. Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Close mental and visual attention required to perform a wide variety of tasks dealing primarily with operating a multi-line telephone, using a computer terminal, and filing/sorting.

Environmental Conditions:

Work is performed in a typical office environment where there is no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
