Salary: $20-$30 per hour

RAFT is seeking an experienced Assistant Instructor (K-8)  who is passionate about hands-on education, loves STEAM, and can inspire joy in learning. The Assistant Instructor is responsible for supporting the Lead Facilitator/Teacher in our summer day camp at Bayshore School District. The Assistant Instructor plays a crucial role in supporting the Lead Facilitator during our summer day camp. Your responsibility includes initiating and concluding each day with captivating team-building and journaling activities that align with the daily STEAM lessons. Through creative opening activities, you will prepare campers to engage their imaginations, enhancing their STEAM learning experience.

Your expertise in working with young children will contribute to advancing RAFT’s mission of instilling the joy of learning in students through hands-on STEAM project kits. Joining this summer program makes you eligible for our professional development training, designed to inspire educators with a wealth of instructional ideas and hands-on learning materials.

We would love to hear from you if you have experience working in education, student programs, or a related field.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate daily opening and closing activities that are a combination of journaling and team-building activities.
  • Assist in managing a classroom of up to 20 campers, creating a collaborative, fun learning environment conducive to group activities. 
  • Support Lead Teachers by helping campers focus on learning activities and transition between activities. 
  • Cultivate a culture of teamwork and collaboration among campers.
  • Maintain an organized space by restocking consumable supplies.
  • Participate in at least 9 hours of onboarding training, professional development, and staff meetings before camp starts.
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills: 

  • Genuine interest and experience in working with young children in a childcare/education environment.
  • Can commit at least two consecutive weeks from 8 am - 12 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet changing needs in a learning environment.
  • Proactive in solving problems efficiently.
  • Enthusiastic and reliable team player.
  • Strong professional skills to fulfill required training and assigned tasks with excellence.
  • Obtain a TB Risk Assessment & Fingerprint clearance (RAFT will cover the cost).

Education and/or Experience:

  • I am currently enrolled in a credential program or Bachelor’s degree applying for credential programs. 
  • 1 or more years of teaching or managing student program experience.
