Quest Diagnostics is Hiring a Sr. Manager, Sustainability Accounting (Hybrid) Near Secaucus, NJ

Overview

The Sr. Manager, Sustainability Accounting will be responsible for managing the sustainability accounting function and report to the Senior Director Enterprise Risk and Control. The purpose of the sustainability function is to integrate environmental, social and governance factors into financial reporting and decision-making processes. This involves internal control design, and the quantification and reporting on the impact of an organization’s activities on the environment, society and economy in accordance with SEC rules of disclosure and corporate sustainability disclosure requirements from various other regulatory authorities (e.g., California, EU). By tracking and measuring sustainability performance, organizations can better understand their associated risks and opportunities, enhance transparency and accountability and drive sustainable business practices. Sustainability accounting helps stakeholders, including investors, customers, employees and regulators assess an organization’s overall sustainability performance and its contribution to long-term value creation and societal well-being.

The Enterprise Risk and Control team reports directly to the Corporate Controller’s function and is responsible for the following:

  • Driving the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Program
  • Assuring there are appropriate accounting, reporting and control protocols in place to ensure the effectiveness of the Company’s Internal Control Over Financial Reporting (ICOFR),
  • Overseeing the Company’s Sustainability Accounting Function, and
  • Advising on matters of Operational Control across the enterprise, including advising on documentation of operational and system process flows and internal control operating matrices.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing climate related reporting, disclosure and analysis related to sustainability initiatives – in alignment with SEC and other regulatory requirements
  • Developing and implementing accounting procedures and internal controls to track, measure and report sustainability metrics
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability practices into financial reporting and decision-making processes
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards relatable to sustainability reporting
  • Providing insights into the identification of cost-saving opportunities and efficiencies through sustainable practices
  • Communicating sustainability performance to internal and external stakeholders through reports and presentations
  • Advising on assessment programs designed to evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability programs
  • Providing guidance and training to staff on sustainability accounting principles and practices
  • Contributing to the development of long-term sustainability strategies and goals for the organization

Qualifications

Required Work Experience:

  • 7 to 10 years relevant experience, including past managerial experience in sustainability accounting, particularly related to climate (i.e., greenhouse gas emissions – Scopes 1, 2 and 3) in a publicly traded commercial company or financial institution

Skills: 

  • Familiarity with risk management, internal controls, accounting and operations
  • Skilled in basic business applications and willingness to analyze other automated solutions to enhance governance and climate related data
  • Knowledge of the establishment and deployment of the Company’s carbon calculator
  • Must exude confidence and have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written 
  • Critical thinking/problem solving, and the instinct to take initiative and drive projects to completion
  • Ability to work independently
  • Highly self-motivated to “make a difference”echnical training in environmental sustainability accounting and reporting
  • Previous technical training in environment sustainability accounting and reporting

Education:Bachelor’s Degree (Required) - in business, finance, sustainability accountingMaster’s Degree – focus on sustainability
