Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Data Professional who has both Database Administrator and Data Architecture background to join our team to support our federal clients. In this role, the ideal candidate will have both data administration and data architecture experiences, and be responsible for designing and implementing databases on the Azure cloud platform, ensuring they meet end user needs while adhering to data management, governance, privacy, cybersecurity policy requirements, and collaborating within an Agile development environment. Moreover, the candidate would be looked upon to lead the design and implementation of the data architectures for data platforms, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability. Experience in data and analytics, application development or related experience is preferred. Relevant data, cloud and Agile certifications a plus.

  • Design, implement, and maintain databases and data platforms on the Azure cloud platform, including operational maintenance, support, and upgrades for complex database management systems architected using a microservices framework.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices for data modeling, integration, and storage in alignment with industry standards and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor and configure database systems and databases to achieve optimum performance levels; perform indexing, data partitioning and performance tuning as required.
  • Leverage open-source platforms, tools, databases, front-end frameworks, and middleware, experience with DataOps and data lake architectures (i.e., Databricks, etc.) a plus.
  • Support complex database software installations, patching and upgrades to operating systems and related database software packages.
  • Document backup and recovery procedures, perform backups, automate, and monitor logging.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to understand end user requirements and translate them into efficient database solutions.
  • Ensure database performance, availability, scalability, and security in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Implement and enforce data management, governance, privacy, and cybersecurity policies, including supporting external audits and conduct audits of databases to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
  • Conduct regular system assessments and optimize database structures for improved efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss.
  • Work closely with Agile development teams to integrate database changes seamlessly into the software development lifecycle.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to database administration, data architectures and Agile methodologies.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship and guidance to junior team members.

Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of database design principles, data analytics, and data management as a Database Administrator.
  • Proven experience as a Data Architect, with a focus on designing and implementing data solutions for complex systems; strong proficiency in data modeling, ETL processes, DataOps, data integration, and database management systems.
  • Hands-on experience with designing and implementing databases on cloud platfforms. Azure platforms a plus.
  • Strong familiarity with data governance, privacy, and cybersecurity policies and best practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate the proper techniques used for database backup and restoration, managing database performance, and performing typical security lockdown procedures.
  • Experience in ETL, process mapping, and data transformation.
  • Experience with improving performance on enterprise applications with large data.
  • Experience working within Agile development methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of DataOps and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with data modeling and database optimization techniques.
  • Knowledge of big data technologies and analytics tools; experience with data lake architectures (i.e., Databricks, etc) a plus.
  • Self-starter and able to communicate effectively with high-level U.S. Government, senior management, internal customers, and external partners.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5 years of proven experience as a Senior Database Administrator / Data Architect, with a focus on Azure cloud a plus.
  • Clearance: Eligible to obtain a public trust clearance
