Summary:

This position will lead and perform all functions necessary related to patient account processing, including billing, cash posting, payment validation, collection, assembly, correspondence, denials and refunds. May be assigned to any work station within the Patient Financial Services High Performance Work Team (HPWT). Works cooperatively as a team leader with all revenue cycle, hospital and management associates. Serves as a trainer and mentor for new hires. Coordinates staff development and performance improvement through the A3 process and maintains team structure by adhering to all work processes as defined by department SOPs and standards.

Education Requirement:

High School Diploma required. Associate Degree in Business or Healthcare Administration, preferred.

Experience Requirement:

Two (2) years experience in Patient Financial Services, Medical Office or Hospital Billing Office experience, required.

Key Job Responsibilities:

1. Lead and/or delegate responsibilities for the daily shift briefings, shift change procedures, daily posting of metrics, issues, problems and opportunities
2. Ensure that issues, problems and opportunities are consistently monitored for successful resolution
3. Monitor work flow and initiate staffing reassignments as necessary
4. Direct work tasks in conjunction with the area manager to assist in adequately managing fluctuating volumes
   1.  Provide feedback to departmental management regarding Team performance and productivity
   2. Support the achievement of departmental goals through the A3 process by collaborating with the Manager to generate A3s’ and assure the execution of action items as assigned to the Team.
   3. Maintain the team discipline of following all elements of the established standard processes (work management, tools, SOPs)
   4. Work with HPWT to maintain an efficient, clean and professional work area
5. Assure that daily and weekly 6S activities are conducted by the Team
6. Coordinate work and lunch schedules for the Team to ensure coverage as required
7. Lead shift briefings to:
   1. Communicate revenue cycle information and changes in process, policy and procedure
   2. Identify educational and mediation needs through shift briefings and observation
   3. Notify departmental management of schedule changes and training issues
8. In the absence of the manager, serve as a point of primary contact for patient complaints and/or customer issues.
9. Represent the department at scheduled meetings as requested by Manager
10. Monitor equipment, hardware maintenance and software updates and report malfunctions and initiating corrective actions when necessary
11. Develop team training tools and educate team members to support the department in achieving established performance targets
12. Follows the Corporate Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI)

• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently and make sound and necessary decisions.
• Must be able to effectively handle sensitive and stressful situations and confidential patient account information
• Knowledge of basic computer skills to include M/S Office, Internet search capabilities, and general office equipment

Supervision Provided by this Job:

• Provides leadership by planning, directing and leading the activities of assigned staff.

• Must have good balance and coordination.
