Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Shelter Advocate to join our team. As a Shelter Advocate, you will provide support and assistance to individuals and families staying in our shelter. Your role will involve providing crisis intervention, emotional support, and resources to help clients transition to safe and stable housing.
Duties:
- Provide direct services to shelter residents, including intake assessments, safety planning, and case management
- Conduct regular check-ins with residents to assess their needs and provide emotional support
- Assist residents in accessing community resources such as healthcare, legal services, and employment assistance
- Collaborate with other staff members to develop individualized service plans for each resident
- Maintain accurate and confidential client files, including progress notes and case documentation
- Facilitate support groups and educational workshops on topics such as self-care, healthy relationships, and financial literacy
- Ensure the safety and security of the shelter by monitoring the premises and enforcing rules and regulations
- Respond to crisis situations in a calm and professional manner, following established protocols
Experience:
- Previous experience working in a social service or crisis intervention setting is preferred
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and practices
- Familiarity with community resources for housing, employment, healthcare, etc.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations
- Ability to handle conflict situations with empathy and professionalism
- Experience in childcare or behavior management is a plus
- First aid certification is desirable
