Responsibilities: The responsibilities of Veterinary technician level 1, include, but are not limited to the following activities:

Vaccine preparation, restraint for lab work and treatments

Obtaining blood pressure and other vitals when needed and being able to recognize “normal”

Able to understand basic hematology and value meanings/ normals

Performing treatments on outpatients

Triaging emergency cases

Assisting fellow technicians and doctors

Expressing anal glands and performing nail trims

Venipuncture for blood work

Sending out lab work and performing in-house blood work ABAXIS/VETSCAN lab equipment and familiar with Rapid testing

Setting up and performing radiographs

Learning AVIMARK including input of charges and medical record keeping

Client communication and basic GP education

Stocking and cleaning exam rooms, treatment, surgical and dental suites

Knowledge of common medication and filling medications

Ability of administering subcutaneous fluids and injections

Familiar with fluid pumps and fluid set up and administration (able to learn with training)

Familiar with the recovery procedures for post-surgical/anesthetized patients.

**Dental and surgery/anesthesia knowledge a plus, willing to train the right candidate to further their knowledge and skills

All other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements: 6 months-1 year veterinary technician/assistant experience preferred – veterinary technician degree and certification required

Physical Requirements:  This job is physically active and requires frequent bending and standing for long periods of time. It requires routine lifting and restraining animals. You must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

Interacts with: The entire RSAH hospital (receptionists/technicians/doctors/clients)

Starting pay range for this position is $20-25 per hour depending on experience.
