What You Can Expect Working in the Inventory Specialist Position

The Inventory Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely receiving, storage, and disbursement of materials, tools, equipment, and products for the shop team. Successful inventory specialists should have excellent interpersonal communication skills, a firm grasp of basic computer skills, and an ability to work both independently and in a team. The Inventory Specialist will perform inventory control activities. You will maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing products and supplies. Through digital and manual counting, you will identify discrepancies with inventory reports and provide reports to the Fabrication and Production Manager for review.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate inventory records through frequent cycle counts and makes inventory adjustments as required.
  • Investigates reasons for adjustments to prevent future inaccuracies.
  • Pulls and delivers required material to the respective production location as required.
  • Performs accurate and timely record keeping ensuring material shows on hand and is charged to the appropriate work order or job.
  • Loads, ships, and receives all product and supplies.
  • Upon receipt of materials, inspect shipments to verify all materials match purchase order/packing list.
  • Maintains an organized, clean, and professional looking storeroom and ensures proper storage of materials in their designated areas.
  • Maintains organized files of packing lists for quality inspections if required.
  • Properly operates and maintains all equipment used (truck, forklifts etc.) and reports any major repairs required.
  • Properly packages materials for outbound shipments to prevent damage.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 6 months of inventory control experience, including cycle counting.
  • Experience and ability to use a computerized inventory system (such as Sage JobOps).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a forklift.
  • Excellent communication skills with manufacturing workers, purchasing department, and outside vendors.
  • Basic understanding of inventory control procedures.
  • Extremely organized and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate [Medical Card].
  • Experience with Sage JobOps.

  • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
