JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Maintenance Worker – Two (2) positions

LOCATION: Red Cliff Maintenance Building

SALARY: $16.00 - $19.00, Plus Benefits

SUPERVISOR(S): Public Works Division Administrator & Maintenance Supervisor

THIS IS A REGULAR FULL-TIME NON-EXEMPT POSITION

JOB SUMMARY: The Maintenance Worker position performs custodial/janitorial and maintenance work, which involves the maintenance of tribal buildings, grounds and equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Work as part of a team and take direction.

2. Assist in maintaining all aspects of tribal properties, including, but not limited to: grounds, sidewalks, parking lots, common areas, exterior and interior of buildings, and all department mechanical and electrical equipment.

3. Responsible to perform routine maintenance and repairs as assigned. Routine maintenance and repairs include but are not limited to; caulking, minor electrical, unplug sinks and toilets, faucet repair and replacement, wall prep/patching, painting, and appliance repair.

4. Assist with electrical, heating and plumbing repairs, such as but not limited to, replace light fixtures, receptacles, trouble shoot HVAC repairs and replace sink traps and drains.

5. Responsible to report to the Supervisor any physical breakdowns, damage, repairs or liabilities pertaining to the facilities maintenance operation, including, but not limited to: equipment, structures, grounds, inventory, and general maintenance.

6. Maintain grounds throughout seasonal changes: lawn care, landscaping and snow/ice removal.

7. Responsible for carrying and utilizing communications equipment for efficient maintenance operations, including, but not limited to: tablets, cell phone, etc. Communication equipment must be turned on anytime the employee is on-duty or on-call.

8. Responsible for assisting with inspections, including, but not limited to: annual, heating & mechanical, buildings & grounds, and preventative maintenance inspections as needed.

9. Document and respond to work orders as assigned.

10. Must be available after and before normal working hours for scheduled maintenance work and on call.

11. Perform highly physical work outdoors on a consistent basis in all weather conditions, specifically very hot, cold, icy, or snowy weather.

12. The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: None

KNOWLEDGE:

1. Knowledge of general building safety and maintenance.

2. Knowledge of and ability to properly use maintenance tools equipment and supplies.

3. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written direction.

4. Ability to express information and instructions clearly whether by phone, correspondence or personal contact; keep accurate records.

5. Ability to work independently, organize workload and manage time effectively.

6. Ability to exercise good judgment, perform work in a courteous and diplomatic manner and establish and maintain harmonious working relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High School graduate or GED required.

2. Two years’ work experience in related field.

3. Able and willing to obtain additional training/education.

4. Must possess a valid driver’s license, have access to a vehicle with liability insurance and be able to be put on the Tribal insurance.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Supervisors, Tribal Staff, Community Members, and various agencies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Primarily all Tribal facilities and grounds keeping. Must be able to do physical manual labor that would require bending twisting, reaching, climbing, and lifting of at least 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Red Cliff Tribal Buildings. Outdoors, for grounds maintenance including during winter for snow removal and ice control. Ability to traverse uneven terrain during site inspections. All Tribal Buildings are smoke free.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Will be required to travel for parts, drive to work site. The ability to travel and attend meetings and trainings, overnight and out of town, both locally & nationally.
