JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Bookkeeper III

LOCATION: Red Cliff Administration Office

SALARY: $15.00 - $18.00, 40 hours/week, plus benefits

SUPERVISOR(S): Senior Accountant

THIS IS A REGULAR FULL-TIME NON-EXEMPT POSITION

JOB SUMMARY: This position is primarily responsible for aiding Tribal employees with travel. This position is the backup position to the Bookkeeper I & II and will train in the duties and responsibilities of each. This position will also perform regular or recurring accounting functions per the direction of the Senior Accountant and/or Finance Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist employees with the Travel Authorization & Requisition form in adherence to the Red Cliff Financial Policies Manual and in accordance with GSA guidelines.

2. Assist employees with the Travel Expense Statement & Requisition form in adherence to the Red Cliff Financial Policies Manual and in accordance with GSA guidelines.

3. Responsible for invoicing employees for travel balances due to the Tribe and/or Tribal Programs in a timely manner.

4. Assist finance department with reconciliation of cash and credit card receipts.

5. Participate in departmental continuous improvement team activities.

6. Participate in department cross-training and training activities to enhance knowledge of team skills, systems functionality.

7. Assist in coverage of Accounting window activities.

8. Provide information to the Senior Accountant, Finance Manager, Tribal Treasurer, and Tribal Administration as required.

9. Assist in other areas within the Accounting Department to resolve problem issues.

10. The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: None

KNOWLEDGE:

1. General knowledge of GSA federal travel guidelines.

2. General knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office applications, Adobe).

3. Must be able to work well in a team setting and recognize problem and conflict resolution skills.

4. Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture and traditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum of high school diploma, HSED or GED required.

2. Strong preference given for a minimum of one year of experience in governmental accounting (preferably Tribal government).

3. Must possess strong analytical, numerical, reasoning, and decision-making abilities.

4. Strong preference given for experience with a computer accounting system.

5. Must be able to work well in a team setting and possess problem and conflict resolution skills.

6. Strong preference to have a valid driver’s license, vehicle and appropriate vehicle coverage and maintain driver’s eligibility as a condition of employment. Be eligible to be put on the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy, strongly preferred.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Daily contact with Tribal Administration, Division Administrator,

Program Directors, customers, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The duties assigned to this position involve bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying. Items may be placed on overhead storage. Weights to be carried are usually less than 50 pounds. Primarily sedentary work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work setting must be maintained as a clean, nonsmoking, well-ventilated area in compliance with all applicable safety regulations. All tribal buildings are smoke free.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to travel and attend meetings and trainings; overnight and out of town, both locally & nationally. Attend Tribal Council meetings as directed.
