Buying a used car has been essentially the same for 75 years: what’s the mileage, what’s the vehicle history, get a mechanic to check out the moving parts and haggle over the price. As electric vehicles (EVs) hit the used market, buyers are changing the way they research and buy. Mileage is less important than how the battery is performing and how far an EV can go on a full charge.

Recurrent is the industry standard for how used EVs are assessed, valued, bought and sold across all areas of the used vehicle ecosystem.

Position Overview

The Head of Engineering will play a critical role in shaping the future of our technology and product offerings. This individual will lead our engineering team, manage our technology stack, and collaborate closely with the product and leadership teams to deliver high-quality products. The ideal candidate is a leader with a strong technical background, a desire to ensure we’re always building the right products, and a proven track record of managing high-performing engineering teams.

As Head of Engineering at Recurrent you will…

• Lead, mentor, and grow the engineering team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
• Work closely with product management and other stakeholders to align engineering initiatives with business objectives and customer needs.
• Define and implement engineering best practices, processes, and strategies to ensure the delivery of scalable, maintainable, and high-quality products.
• Drive the technical roadmap, making strategic decisions on technology stack, architecture, and tools. Our current stack includes Rails, NextJS, and Python.
• Foster an inclusive environment that encourages diversity of thought and innovation.

This job might be for you if you have...

• 8 years of software development experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing engineering teams.
• Proven track record of leading and scaling engineering teams in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Strong technical background with hands-on experience in our core technologies: Rails, NextJS, Python, and AWS.
• Appreciation for both hacky and well-designed technical solutions, and a keen sense for when and where to employ each.
• Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred but not required.
