Job Description: Lead Data Engineer

About the role:

As the most senior data engineer of our team, you’ll be taking over and leading the work on the data platform modernization effort that the team has begun. You’ll be driving the technical architecture of our holistic data practice, as well as implementing the initial pipeline scaffolding, realizing the first set of core use cases, and establishing best practices for the broader team of data analysts and engineers.

What you will do:

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable and secure data pipelines

• Champion best practices in data engineering, including data quality, version control, and documentation

• Oversee the data architecture and ensure it aligns with business needs

• Mentor and coach data engineers, fostering a collaborative and learning environment

• Partner with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions

• Stay up-to-date on the latest data engineering tools and technologies, and evaluate new solutions to optimize our data ecosystem

• Collaborate with Platform engineers to ensure seamless integration and deployment of data pipelines via common CI/CD toolkits like Terraform and Github Actions

• Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines, proactively identifying and resolving issues

• Develop and maintain documentation for data pipelines and processes

What you should have:

• 5 years of hands-on experience in a Data Engineering role, working with cloud-based systems (AWS Aurora PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Fivetran, DBT Cloud, etc.)

• Extensive knowledge of SQL and NoSQL data stores

• Production experience working with and managing a Snowflake deployment

• Experience using orchestration tools like Airflow

• Experience extracting information from SaaS systems like Salesforce using ETL tools like FiveTran

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and Database Change Management tooling

• Experience with operational database management, including backup, recovery, tuning, data modeling, scaling

• Must be self-motivated, focused, and highly committed to delivering value 

Nice to haves:

• Dev certifications (and or real-world experience) building clean data models that flow to Snowflake

• Experience with or certifications in Salesforce CRM Data Platform

• Demonstrated experience with Python, Java, Scala, or similar languages

• Experience working in the Financial Services industry and familiarity with working in a SOC2 and PCI-DSS environment.
