Our starting salary for a 1st year teacher with no prior experience is between $45,000 and it goes up from there aligned with years of prior experience if certified. If uncertified salary starts at $40,000.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports, utilizing curriculum designated by Newport News Public Schools and other appropriate learning activities;
  • Work cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program;
  • Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement;
  • Provide appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment to ensure the overall safety of students;
  • Evaluate academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary;
  • Evaluates each student's growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports;
  • Actively participate in all professional development as well as weekly planning;
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress;
  • Create and manage a classroom environment or culture the components of which are clearly geared toward fostering growth in intellectual virtues or good thinking habits as they relate to your discipline ;
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas;
  • Monitor and promote the social-emotional and physical safety and security of students;
  • Provide ongoing and timely feedback to students on their progress towards meeting expectations and achieving goals for your content;
  • Use student data to reflect on effectiveness of lessons and student achievement progress in order to improve instruction and personal practice;
  • Facilitate dialogue and conversation with students especially in processing teamwork and healthy group choices with a desire for students to take active roles in making their understanding clear to the classroom of learners;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Q ualifications/Education and/or Experience
It's not required but is preferred that teachers hold a NYS professional teaching certificate in their subject area or be eligible for reciprocity to include (1) Minimum Bachelor's degree in subject area to be taught, Master's Degree preferred; (2) Proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom and commitment to accountability preferred ; (3) Belief in and alignment with REACH Academy Charter School core beliefs and educational philosophy; (4) Valid New York State Certification, except in cases where the Head of School shall make an exception under the terms of this Policy, in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Salary - REACH Academy Charter School has a salary scale in place. Your salary step will depend on your prior years of experience and certification. A first-year teacher with no experience but has their certification will start at $45,000. A teacher on step 10 which is the most prior credit we can give is $65,830. Uncertified teaches begin at $40,000.
