Racine, County of (WI) is Hiring a SCJ Aquatic Center Lifeguard Near WI, WI

The Lifeguard assures the safety of all aquatic participants in and around the pool area, maintains a safe pool environment.

Salary:

  • Year 1 Lifeguard: $19.06hr.
  • Year 2 Lifeguard: $19.44/hr. 
  • Year 3 Lifeguard: $19.82/hr.
  • Year 4 Lifeguard: $20.22/hr.
  • Practice preventative lifeguarding, maintaining constant surveillance of pool area.
  • Ensure quality performance of all aquatics staff, enforcing code of conduct, pool rules and policies.
  • While Lifeguarding, refrain from other duties, such as testing chemicals, storing equipment, etc. while actively guarding. Additional duties would be completed prior to or after actively guarding or during a shift rotation when you have a short break from actively guarding.
  • Keep pool area clean and orderly, monitor locker rooms and restrooms.
  • Support and follow all policies & decisions, answer memberquestions about the aquatic site & its programs.
  • Maintain all aquatic equipment by ensuring proper use and storage.
  • Test pool water temperature and chemical levels daily, reporting any concerns to a supervisor.
  • Check rescue equipment and first aid supplies daily.
  • Immediately notify a supervisor of any broken equipment or unsafe aspects of the pool.
  • Act as a Primary Responder in case of injury, accident, or illness.
  • Be knowledgeable of EAP, report injuries & complete required forms. 
  • Follow proper rotations protocol.
  • Exhibit a professional attitude at all times, which includes wearing appropriate staff uniform.
  • Complete all opening, closing and operational tasks, to include and not limited to equipment, hosing deck and garbage cans.
  • Participate in in-services trainings.
  • Assist with aquatic programs and events, set-up and instruction.
  • Any additional duties assigned by lead or supervisor.

Supervision ReceivedReceives supervision from Recreation Program Manager, Aquatic Supervisor, and Lead Lifeguard.

  • Must be fifteen and a half (15.5) years of age or older.
  • Must possess a current Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR-AED & First-Aid certification and Waterpark Skills certification.
  • Proficient in swimming and safety skills.
  • Must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly to an emergency.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all swimmers.
  • Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR-AED & First Aid effectively. 
  • Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 300 lb. person.
  • Must be able to physically stand and sit for an extended period of time.
  • Physically able to see, hear, and communicate clearly and be able to hear noises and distress signals in aquatic environment.
  • Able to read, write and perform basic math to complete daily chemical logs.
  • Swim with proficiency and endurance for possible rescues. 
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with members and staff.

Environmental Considerations

  • Worker is exposed to chemicals (i.e., chlorine and cleaning materials).
  • Worker is exposed to outside weather conditions 100% of the time, including extreme heat and humidity, cold and rain. 
  • Staff is encouraged to wear sunscreen, sunglasses, shirt and a hat, drink plenty of fluids. 

Safety and Facility Requirements

  • Assure a safe and hazard free environment by inspecting and taking the necessary action to correct and safeguard against potential problems and/or accidents. 
  • Must comply with all safety policies and procedures now in effect or adopted in the future.
  • Worker must be able to follow directions with safe follow through and exercises good judgment and safety awareness.
  • Worker will use all required PPE.
  • All unsafe conditions are to be reported to your supervisor immediately

Staff Incentives

  • Free family membership to the SC Johnson Community Aquatic Center.
  • $50 early sign-on bonus if accepted before April 1st (awarded mid July).
  • $50 bonus for returning staff (awarded mid July).
  • $100 referral bonus for each new staff member referred and hired (awarded mid July).
  • $200 end of season bonus for those averaging 20 hours for 10 weeks or $500 end of season bonus for those averaging 35 hours for 10 weeks.
  • Will receive time and a half if scheduled to work on a holiday (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day).

*In order to receive any incentive bonuses, you must be an active employee at the time of distribution otherwise it will not be awarded to you.*
