Job Description:
Quest Counseling & Consulting, a private nonprofit located in Reno, Nevada, provides behavioral health services to adolescents and adults including substance abuse and/or mental health disorders treatment.

We are looking for a part-time Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) who is an individual whose role supports others in recovery from a substance use disorder. The PRSS will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The PRSS must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships, while maintaining professional boundaries.
Essential Function:
The PRSS’s duties shall include but are not limited to:
1. Develop rapport and engage in a personal and positive supportive relationship, demonstrating and inspiring.
2. Promotes recovery by removing barriers and obstacles, i.e. support and sustain transition from professionally assisted recovery initiation to personally directed, community supported recovery maintenance.
3. Provide social and emotional support inside and outside the organization
4. Brainstorm to identify strengths and needs post-discharge, and ensure that the discharge plan is comprehensive and complete
5. Assist peers in assessing unique strengths and abilities by identifying recovering persons’ abilities, strengths and assets and guide them to recognize and use these strengths to achieve their goals
6. Provide recovery education for the different phases of the recovery journey to include internal and external process i.e., running a peer support group (meditation, wellness, SMART).
7. Provide a model for both people in recovery and staff by demonstrating that recovery is possible.
8. Provide links to professional treatment and community resources.
9. Help individuals and families to initiate, stabilize, and sustain recovery.
10. Long-term engagement, support, and encouragement by maintaining contact by phone and /or e-mail with recovering person after they leave the program to ensure their ongoing success and to provide re-engagement support.
11. Distribute and track distribution of Narcan and Fentanyl Test strips to clients, community, and while participating in outreach events.
12. Provide peer lead recovery groups on-site and via telehealth.
13. Develop pro-social activities for clients to participate in on a quarterly basis.
14. Learn and utilize our electronic health record to enter progress notes.
15. Willingness to provide transportation to clients when necessary or meet them in the community.
The PRSS must demonstrate the following qualities:
After 90 days of successful employment, Quest offers the following company paid employee benefits: health, dental, vision, LTD and Life Insurance, and after 1 year of employment is eligible to participate in 401K plan with company match.
Candidate must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, including marijuana.
Hours: 8:00am to 5:00pm - Monday through Friday
