Description

Job Objectives:

• The Mechanical Project Engineer is responsible for the design and development of new metrology products, product subsystems, and components. 
• By utilizing mechanical engineering principles, the engineer will contribute to these new designs and development in a way that meets technical, functional, and cost requirements. 
• The primary engineering discipline is solid body mechanics with emphasis on machine design.

Job Responsibilities: 

• Provides engineering and design for new and improved products that meet specific performance, manufacturability, and cost requirements.
• Independently develops solutions for moderately complex precision mechanical systems.
• Participates on and contributes to cross functional project teams as assigned.
• Collaborates with other company functions as required which includes but not limited to Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, and Purchasing to appropriately translate project requirements to robust, reliable, and profitable solutions.
• Performs a wide range of moderately complex mechanical engineering, design, and analysis that is appropriate for new product and improved product systems. Completes more complex design with assistance.
• Works with Manufacturing to assist in the communication of design intent, development of processes and work instructions for the assembly and qualification of precision machine systems, and to troubleshoot and resolve production manufacturing problems.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; BSME preferred
• 5 years of related experience in precision ma chine design and/or opto-mechanical design with emphasis on complex product systems engineering.
• Demonstrated successful applications of precision engineering principles preferably on precision metrology systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

• Problem analysis and problem resolution.
• Machine tool system design with mechanical, electrical, optical, and software content.
• 3D CAD modeling proficiency; Autodesk Inventor experience preferred.
• Parametric mechanical modeling skills.
• Working proficiency in GD&T Y14.5M-1994.

The successful candidate has a proven record of performance and very high initiative. The candidate thrives in a high mix, low volume design and manufacturing support environment. A BSME is preferred with 5 years of relevant experience in a profitable design and manufacturing environment. The following experience is desired but not required:

Machine tool system design with mechanical, electrical, optical, and software content.

Precision engineering for metrology system design and development.

3D CAD modeling proficiency; Autodesk Inventor experience preferred.

Parametric mechanical modeling skills.

Working proficiency in GD&T Y14.5M-1994.

Problem solving and problem resolution.
