Position Summary

The General Manager isresponsible for the overall success of the hotel.This position is responsible for revenuegeneration to meet or exceed budget, cost control, maintaining operating andbrand standards, daily duties, scheduling, supervision and monitoring,leadership, and individual effectiveness.This position knows the daily operation of each department within thehotel and establishes and maintains a positive employee climate to meet orexceed guest expectations. 

Responsibilities

  • Property Audits

    • Ensuringthe property is prepared at all times for the quality assurance audit and has afull knowledge of all standards for the brand

    • Reviewingand walking through a weekly property audit with Chief Engineer and ExecutiveHousekeeper and having a minimum number of property audit corrections

    • Knowledgeof and ensuring implementation of all company shopping and telemonitoringprograms

  • Revenue Management

    • Understandsthe role and knows how to manage all sources of revenue (e.g. rooms, food andbeverage, telephones, etc.)Knows localmarket segments (sources of business).

    • Utilizingmultiple tools and resources to maximize room revenues and can accuratelyanalyze market mix

    • Accuratelyforecasting occupancy, average rate, and revenue

    • Adjustingrates based upon market position and demand and developing an effective programtargeted to specific market segments

    • Meetingor exceeding hotel revenue goals 

  • Marketing/Business Planning

    • Developingand implementing marketing plans based on position in market.Directing effective advertising, publicrelations, promotions programs, social media, and review sites.

    • Incorporatingkey customer groups and market segments into action plans.Revising marketing strategies for changes incompetition and market conditions.Usingavailable resources (e.g. market surveys and hotel history) for business plan.

    • Accuratelypredicting the impact of existing and potential competitors on the existingmarket.Reacting quickly to changingmarket conditions.

  • Sales Management

    • Takingdirect responsibility for sales and approving sales action plans

    • Knowskey account executives and anticipates changes in key account needs and canadjust sales strategy to meet them

    • Consistentlycreating innovative sales ideas

    • Knowsthe key accounts and monthly production levels for each sales person on thestaff.Discusses weekly sales,production, bookings, and booking targets with sales staff

    • Involvingall key hotel managers in sales

    • Approvingmonthly sales reports and submitting them to corporate management as required

  • Community Relations

    • Maintainingactive involvement in community and industry organizations

    • Maintainingcommunication with competitive hotels, Convention and Visitor Bureau, andChamber of Commerce

    • Participatingin community activities, employee activities, and guest events

  • Food and Beverage

    • Ensuringfranchise and health department inspection requirements are met

    • Hasa working knowledge of kitchen operations, such as food handling andpreparation, sanitation, safety, maintenance of equipment, etc.

    • Ensuringfood and beverage marketing plan is implemented, including all outlets andcatering/banquets

    • Ensuringcompany standards of quality are maintained

  • Customer Service

    • Iscommitted to making every guest happy.Responding promptly to guest complaints.Maintaining customer service as driving philosophy of property.Scheduling times daily to identify needs ofguests.Meeting or exceeding complaintgoals and maintaining hotel standards to meet guest needs.

    • Ensuringnew hires are trained

    • EnsuringManger on Duty program is in place and all managers participate

  • Budget/FinancialManagement

    • Successfullymeeting or exceeding budgeted profit margin of the hotel.Maintaining company standard of 30%flow-through or more of revenues in excess of budget to house profit.

    • Controllingexpense, forecasting revenues/expenses, anticipating revenue/cost problems, andadjusting/maintaining the bottom line

    • Producingfinancial reports accurately and on a timely basis

    • Submittingannual budget on time with only minor revisions.Knows at all times where hotel stands againstbudget.

    • Approvingall direct billing accounts based on a thorough review of the creditapplication and reference information.Maintaining accounts to ensure timely billing and payment.

    • Ensuringall cash control procedures are in place

  • Asset/CapitalManagement

    • Managingphysical assets including preventative maintenance programs

    • Maintainingproperty to acceptable consumer standards budget

    • UsingROI to justify capital budget request and executing capital projects withinbudget and on time

  • Human ResourcesManagement

    • Managingkey managers and assuming direct responsibility for human resources, includingprogressive discipline activities, personnel documentation and files, sourcing,recruiting, training, selection, counseling, and motivation

    • Monitoringemployee scheduling and staffing levels.Approving timecards on a timely basis.

    • Completingemployee performance reviews on time

    • Maintaininga positive work environment.Treatingemployees fairly, consistently, and with respect.Recognizing and rewarding excellentperformance.Encouraging and promotingteamwork.Setting a positive example forall subordinates.

    • Ensuringall key employees are on personal career development plans to consistentlydevelop talent.Discussing and assistingwith departmental objectives.Ensuringall hotel employees know hotel goals.

    • Conductingregular employee meetings and preparing and distributing meeting minutes

    • Ensuringthe hotel is in full compliance with all Federal, State, and Local lawspertaining to Human Resources, Employment, Wages & Hour, OccupationalHealth & Safety (OSHA), American Disabilities Act (ADA), HazardsCommunication (MSDS), and any additional laws that may be applicable

    • Ensuringall employees are fully trained in emergency procedures

    • Ensuringkey control procedures are in place and are followed

    • Continuallysupporting and promoting Quality Oil Company’s history, culture, work, andenvironment

    • Effectivelydelegating projects and duties

  • Corporate OfficeRelations Management

    • Maintainingfavorable relations with Corporate Office staff by responding to CorporateOffice staff questions/requests.Developing respect and trust with Corporate Office staff.Anticipating Corporate Office staff requestsand consistently supplies accurate and timely financial and operatingdata.Gives Corporate Office staffaccurate and reliable information and completes all month end reportsaccurately and on time.Regularlycommunicates with Corporate Office staff.

    • InfluencingCorporate Office Staff in capital investments

    • Knowshow to complete all Quality Oil Company’s formatted computer tasks

    • Submittingincident reports by the next business day

    • Takingappropriate action in response to insurance carrier recommendations sent by theCorporate Office

Requirements

  • Priorsupervisory and hospitality experience are required

  • Priorhospitality management experience is strongly preferred

  • Priorexperience with hotel computer systems and spreadsheet programs is preferred

  • Abilityto plan, organize, and lead the activities of others
