Reports to: Quality Assurance
Job Summary
Works in collaboration with the Company Management and QA Teams, to ensure that all Riverence sites meet criteria required by third party certifications as well as international standards for importing and exporting product. Must be familiar with all aspects and elements of a quality system including but not limited to specifications, corrective action plans (CRA), quality programs and continuous quality improvement programs. Ability to create processes to comply with all laws and regulations.
Essential Functions
  • Support management on tracking audit activities and administration of audit schedule.
  • Develops internal processes and documents to comply to import & export regulations.
  • Works with Sales team to determine and comply with international regulatory requirements.
  • Works with VP of Quality Assurance to carry out audits, including but not limited to preparing and communicating completion of annual audit requirements.
  • Become SQF (Safe Quality Food) "Practitioner" with knowledge of SQF Food Safety Code for Food Manufacturing.
  • Lead on the ASC/SQF program to assure the company complies and maintains programs which includes preparing and communicating audit plans.
  • Execute audits through the evaluation of operations/processes, the review of documents and records, and interviews of employees for compliance.
  • Communicate with all departments and outside contractors to education and support third party audits.
  • Routinely conduct traceability audits
  • Knowledgeable of Food Safety Practices and ensure maintenance of proper sanitary conditions.
  • Develop proficiency in quality assurance audits and become knowledgeable and certified ac-cording to USDC, NMFS HACCP, with ability to maintain & track HACCP Plan for all facilities where it is required.
  • Become Drinking Water Certified to meet requirements for South Central Public Health District.
  • Ability to write and train on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Q.A., Technicians, Pro-duction Operations and ensure SOPs are followed.
  • Track implementation of corrective actions and verify actions for effectiveness.
  • Support external audits including interfacing with regulatory agencies and registrars if necessary.
  • Identifies discrepancies, risks, and other problems, then reports findings to upper management; recommends appropriate corrective measures.
  • Promotes and educates benefits of adopted control measures; encourages responsible parties to adopt changes necessary to correct problems and noncompliance.
  • Lead and support projects and initiatives to achieve Quality Systems objectives and any other regulatory objectives (e.g., FDA Food Defense, Product Recalls, Food Fraud, etc.).
  • Responsible to support certifications that are customer driven at all locations.
  • Manages operational non-routine tracking and recordkeeping.
  • Develops plans for quality and logistics for emerging international business opportunities.
  • Public speaking in front of small and/or large groups.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Requirements
  • Must have basic knowledge of food manufacturing processes and the ability to work towards in-depth understanding of the companies processes and products.
  • A strong background in food manufacturing is desirable to enable the individual to evaluate in-ternal systems and compliance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Quality Systems Regulations, ISO requirements and guidelines, GFSI 3rd-Party certifications and processes, and ability to quickly develop a thorough under-standing of internal policies and procedures. SQF preferred.
  • Must be reliable and capable of developing leadership skills in order to manage the QA team.
  • Basic experience or knowledge on issue resolution disciplines (e.g., problem solving/decision making, root cause analysis, etc.).
  • Must be able to manage stressful situations and to handle controversial issues.
  • Highly compliance oriented to firmly adhere to the principles of the regulations and standards.
Education/Experience Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a food, manufacturing or international business related specialty is pre-ferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a Quality or International logistics role.
  • Experience with HACCP, and able to become HACCP certified through USDC.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications or equivalent required.
  • Ability to attain a Drinking Water Class I License.
Travel
  • Some travel between company sites.
  • Overnight travel may also be required
Supervisory Responsibility
This position coordinates with various departments and leadership team within the Company. This position will directly supervise the QA department under the supervision of the QA department head.
Work Environment
This job will be in both a professional office environment as well as in a processing plant with cold temperatures and humidity. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The job also involves visits to the various Company locations on an as needed basis that are outdoors or inside processing plants or other commercial and agricultural buildings, which may have weather conditions, temperature changes, wet environments, and loud noises.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The ability to lift and carry 25 pounds. Site visits include working in inclement weather (heat, cold, humidity).
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position working on-site at the Buhl Processing Plant and includes spending time on the processing floor. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. with an occasional Saturday or early morning for audits.
