The Children's Substance Use Disorder Therapist (SUD) is responsible for maintaining a caseload consisting of children, adolescents, and families with a primary substance abuse and/or mental health diagnosis. The therapist collaborates with professional team members from TGC (The Guidance Center) and other providers or systems to integrate service delivery. Services are delivered in the office setting on a scheduled or walk-in basis.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Participate in the delivery of clinical services, including intake evaluations, substance abuse screenings, assessments, and direct treatment for children, adolescents, and families.
2. Conduct Intake Assessments, including all necessary opening paperwork (Psychosocial Assessment, financial and demographic forms, etc.).
3. Gather and integrate information from available sources, including client self-reports, reports from family members, guardian(s), and probation officer, documented medical and treatment history, etc.
4. Assist in the development of comprehensive Person-Centered Treatment Planning with consumers and other members of the treatment team.
5. Provide face-to-face clinical interventions, in-office, to each assigned consumer at least monthly.
6. Provide individual, family, and group therapy.
7. Conduct crisis planning with clients.
8. Provide parent education, coaching, and training.
9. Provide referrals for services and community resources as needed.
10. Collaborate with others in relation to the child and family, including psychiatrists, primary care physicians, Wraparound facilitators, school personnel, and other family service or support people.
11. Advocate on behalf of the child and family to assist them in meeting their needs and reaching their desired level of self-sufficiency.
12. Assess client satisfaction and participate in program evaluation as needed.
13. Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, and case consultations.
14. Complete clinical records and agency documentation in a timely manner consistent with policies and procedures of The Guidance Center.
15. Work with other COP and Guidance Center staff in addressing unit and agency issues and student supervision.
16. Follow The Guidance Center's professional code of ethics.
17. Represent The Guidance Center in the community in a professional manner.
18. Maintain appropriate state licensure or certifications.
19. Complete 24 hours of training per calendar year specific to children or adolescents.
20. Develop a schedule with a supervisor and work at least 4 hours each week after 5:00 PM.
21. Full-time staff must provide 23 hours of billable service per week.
22. Coordinate effective discharge planning prior to case closure.
23. Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Job Details:
- Travel: Mileage reimbursement when a personal vehicle is used (IRS standard: $0.64 per mile).
- Training: Any training required for the position will be paid for by The Guidance Center.

- Paid holidays include: New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the day after (Black Friday), Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling and possess the corresponding State of Michigan licensure.
- Candidates without a state license can be considered but must obtain state licensure (LLMSW, LLPC, TLLP, LMSW, LPC, or LLP) within a 60-day training period beginning on the date of hire. All state licensures must remain active, in effect, and free from disciplinary action.
- Must obtain the Child Mental Health Professional credential within 120 days of hire.
- Must possess a CAADC credential or be on an active, approved registered MCBAP certification Development Plan within six weeks of hire.
- One year of experience (may include time spent in fieldwork or internship) treating or working with people diagnosed with mental illness and substance use disorders.
- One year of experience (may include time spent in fieldwork or internship) treating children.
- Additional requirements include cultural competency, the ability to work effectively with a diverse population, the ability to engage and maintain therapeutic relationships with individuals and families in various modes of treatment, the ability to develop collaborative relationships with other unit staff and providers, and a willingness to be flexible.
