As an Engineering Intern with Quality Buildings, you will gain first-hand experience during a 10–12-week program where you will discover the ins and outs of prefab wood framing construction, from start to finish. The internship will provide you with unique and valuable lifetime experiences in our teams that bring a project from conception to completion.

Internship Experience

• Structural Engineering
  • Design structural components or assemblies.
  • Analyze existing structures under supervision of a senior engineer.
  • Perform structural calculations.
  • Attend site visits to review construction in progress or evaluate buildings to be renovated or retrofitted.
• Virtual Design & Construction
  • Review Architectural and Structural Drawings.
  • Identify constructability issues, clashes, conflicts, etc. and assist with RFI process.
  • Attend site visits with VDC Manager.
• Business Development
  • Attend site visits or client meetings
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs and material sourcing
  • Assist with creating project budgets
  • Review contract and construction documents
• Operations Team
  • Attend site visits with Project Manager to review construction progress.
  • Assist with project management tasks.
  • Review contracts, budgets, schedules, and other project related tasks.

Safety Requirements

• Safety/Steel toe boots and long pants required for field work.
• Ensure always working safely and environment is safe.
• Work with ear protection when necessary.
• Work in a loud environment when necessary.
• Work in various temperatures when necessary.
• Work in a dusty environment when necessary.
• Maintain and follow proper safety protocol. 

Schedule & Work Environmnet/ Physical Requirements

• Expected Start Date: May 2024
• Monday – Friday / 8am – 4:30pm with 30-minute unpaid lunch break (flexible scheduling available).
• Typical work week is between 36 and 40 hours.
• Office environment/desk work on a regular basis.
• Travel to active job sites 1-2 days per week.
• May require standing for periods up to 10 hours a day.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related program with building design or construction focus is required.
• Completed coursework in structural design (concrete, steel, wood, etc.) is recommended.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to perform basic hand-written calculations to size and detail structural elements
• Ability to present hand-written calculations in an organized and legible manner
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software to maintain accurate project records

• Director of Structural Engineering.

Compensation:

This is a paid internship at an hourly pay rate of $20.00 per hour.
