Q-CTRL is Hiring an Engineering Manager Near Sydney, FL

About us

We hold the key to making quantum technology useful and operate at the highest levels of the emerging quantum sector. Our products are already revolutionizing the way quantum technology is used; From educating the workforce on how quantum computing works with Black Opal, to the industry-first native integration of our performance-management software with IBM Quantum services in November 2023, we are building the global quantum sector and defining the quantum infrastructure software segment. But our work isn’t limited to quantum computing; we go everywhere that quantum goes. In July 2023 our work with Australian Defence delivering software-ruggedized quantum sensing for navigation without GPS was featured in the New York Times.

We base these world-leading commercial outcomes on a foundation of transformational research. We operate the industry’s largest team of experts in quantum control, and push the limits of human capability through our software, hardware, and technical publications in the world’s most prestigious scientific journals.

As a high-growth global quantum startup we’ve raised US $74M since 2017 from investors such as Airbus Ventures, Horizons Ventures, Main Sequence Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, Sierra Ventures, SquarePeg Capital, and others; this includes the world’s largest Series B for any quantum software company, announced in early 2023. Adding to the completion of our new global HQ in Sydney (Australia’s first fully dedicated, commercial quantum technology site), Los Angeles, and Berlin offices, we’ve also recently announced our expansion into the UK to continue to impact the development of quantum technology globally.

We’re led by our values: to be real, to be trusted, to be just, and to be revered. We’ve brought together an inspiring team of world-leading physicists, engineers, product and design specialists (to name a few!) to help us shape the future of quantum technology. And we’re looking for new team members who want to help us change the world.

About the role

This is a newly created position in response to Q-CTRL’s continuous growth and expansion. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the role is responsible for managing engineering activities related to both Q-CTRL’s Boulder Opal product, and the Quantum Platform - a set of shared services supporting Q-CTRL’s quantum products and integration partners.

Working closely with Product Managers, Product Designers, and Engineering teams, you'll bring your strong technology, delivery management and people skills to a highly dynamic and rapidly evolving environment.

A background in software engineering is essential. Ideally, you’ll be a strong Back-end Engineer and a thoughtful system architect with a knack for making the seemingly complex bleedingly simple. And whilst you won’t be expected to write code, we won’t stop you if you want to.

\n

What you'll be doing:

  • Using your people leadership experience to support the career of software engineers at all levels
  • Owning and shaping the resourcing and delivery plans of the teams in partnership with our Product Managers and Product Designers
  • Using your great project and dependency management skills to identify and remove blockers involving people, processes, and tools so that the teams feel productive
  • Contributing to measurable, tangible improvements to Engineering productivity for your teams
  • Being part of the Engineering Leadership team and leading, or contributing to, various Engineering initiatives and programs
  • Using your impressive stakeholder management skills to ensure everyone is aligned on plans, progress, and risks
  • Giving and soliciting feedback from others within and beyond Engineering in order to continually raise the bar for Engineering excellence.
Ideally you'll have:
  • 3 years of industry experience in a people leadership role in a software engineering discipline
  • A passion for delivery and project management (we don’t use dedicated Scrum Masters or Project Managers)
  • A track record of leading high performing teams to measurable, tangible outcomes working closely with Product Managers and Product Designers
  • A history of successfully supporting people’s personal development plans
  • A software engineering background as an individual contributor
  • Experience supporting 24/7 SaaS product development
  • Enough knowledge about system design and architecture to provide highly valuable feedback
  • Curiosity, resilience and a forward-thinking mindset.
It would be fantastic if you had these skills/experience, but not essential:
  • R&D background, particularly mathematics and numerical calculations
  • Quantum physics or a similar scientific field
  • High Performance Computing
  • Python
