Description

PUYALLUP TRIBAL HEALTH AUTHORITY, located in Tacoma, Washington is seeking an Associate Program Director. The APD assists the Residency Program Director in the day-to-day operation of the Residency program.

GENERAL FUNCTION: Assists the Program Director by overseeing the training, support and supervision of all residents and all medical students, as required. Provide professional health care services to PTHA patients primarily in an ambulatory setting in a culturally sensitive manner, in line with the PTHA mission, vision, values and policies and procedures. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve as preceptor for medical residents and students, and part-time teaching faculty for the PTHA Family Medicine Residency Program (60 % of the time) Provide support to the Program Director to ensure the program is meeting the educational mission. 
  • Ensure compliance with ACGME accreditation common program requirements and ACGME-approved specialty standards for ACGME programs and maintain required memberships and attend required conferences to maintain ACMGE accreditation. 
  • Responsible for ensuring completion of all resident and faculty evaluations/oversees the advising of all residents/ leads the Individual Learning Planning committee in addressing individual resident deficiencies in core competencies and milestones and oversees the CCC, PEC, MEC and faculty meetings. 
  • Lead in faculty development, education, training and responsible for residency curriculum development, didactics, clinical chart reviews and lead in giving presentations to both residents and medical students. Review and participate in ACGME application to ensure the program is maintaining accreditation status in regards to faculty development. 
  • Osteopathic leadership duties: Serve as curricular liaison for ACMGE OR (Osteopathic Recognition) accreditation, Work with ODME to ensure residents are maintaining Osteopathic core competencies and report to ODME on residency milestone progress. These duties can only be performed by a DO. 
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat medical, obstetric, psychiatric, and surgical diseases and emergencies as credentialed and privileged, at PTHA and other designated facilities as assigned. 
  • Oversee the medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients by other medical professionals including precepting midlevel providers as needed. 
  • Make referrals to specialists as per PTHA protocol and follow-up to assure quality care. 
  • Provide on-site health education and counseling to patients and staff. 
  • Participate in after-hours on-call duty as scheduled. 
  • Provide back-up consultation to other on-call PTHA providers as scheduled. 
  • Participate in Peer Review process, utilization review studies and quality improvement committee as assigned. 
  • Responsible for completing charts thoroughly and accurately, within required time frame. 
  • Responsible for meeting reporting requirements of the organization as directed.
  • Serve as preceptor for medical residents and students, and teaching faculty for the PTFM Residency Program. Provide support for the PTHA educational mission, values and goals. 
  • Maintain and demonstrate professionalism and self-care techniques on an ongoing basis within the work place. Serve as clinical adjunct faculty for area medical schools as available. 
  • Perform histories, physicals, and direct the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of PTHA patients in local hospitals including participation in rounding schedule. Rounding only. 

Requirements

  • Doctorate of Medicine or Osteopathy from an accredited institution.
  • Board certified in Family Medicine and current license to practice medicine in the State of Washington.
  • Ability to obtain hospital privileges within four (4) months of hire, to participate in rounding rotation.
  • Current certification in ACLS and/or PALS and/or ALSO, as required.
  • Experience and/or ability to work with an Electronic Health Records System.
