Purple Rock Scissors is Hiring a Systems Designer Near Orlando, FL

PRPL has an exciting opportunity for a contract Designer proficient in design systems to support a large, tech client of ours. This is a 6-month contract from June through December requiring 40 hours per week. Fully remote. US based, PST preferred. 

Overall Responsibilities:We are seeking a designer to support this team in developing component design specifications based on existing standards including visual design, token specifications and accessibility specifications for hand off to engineering and based on product requirements provided by Product Managers. This individual must be able to work collaboratively with the UX team, Product Managers and Engineering.

  • Deep Understanding of Design Systems: The right individuals should be able to articulate the principles of design systems, understand their structure and benefits, and have experience applying them in real-world projects.
  • Collaboration and Communication Skills:  This is essential. Design systems UX designers are the bridge between different teams, so their ability to collaborate effectively and communicate design decisions clearly is paramount.
  • Excellent Writing and Documentation Skills: Design systems are living documents, and clear, concise documentation is key to their success. The right candidate should be able to write comprehensive documentation, including component guidelines, usage examples, and rationales, ensuring that everyone involved understands how to use the system effectively.

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Create robust, coherent, useful, and usable design system components that meet the needs of the product, across a variety of devices and brand needs. 
  • Triage incoming requests to update specifications from engineering, product management, or UX team 
  • Develop and manage production timelines throughout implementation with UX and cross functional stakeholders(UX, Product Managers and Engineering)
  • Manage reviews with accessibility specialists and engineers to flag accessibility concerns and document requirements and specifications.
  • Write reviews with the UXW team to develop and publish design guidelines on the design guidelines website.
  • Generate components and layouts in Figma, based on existing internal standards.
  • Continuously explore a backlog of new modes of communication that meet the changing needs of the users(both designers/engineers and end-users) in ways that are delightful, understandable, and accessible.
  • Develop and manage processes that enable a sustainable creation and evolution of the design language.

Qualifications:

  • Min. 8 years of experience in product design or UX.
  • Min. 2 years of experience as a feature or product designer working directly with design systems.
  • Experience contributing to mature design systems including component design, documentation, and education.
  • Working knowledge of design tokens.
  • Experience designing across multiple platforms.
  • Experience with accessibility standards.
  • Strong communication, collaboration and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Expert with Figma, with strong awareness of its strengths and limitations
  • Portfolio highlighting multiple projects, with at least one focusing on a design system.
