Position Summary:
Product Managers are responsible for the entire product lifecycle including setting the portfolio strategy and innovation roadmap for the category or brand, leading the product development process from ideation to launch, partnering with brand management and marketing communication teams to build commercialization plans, as well as leading new item creation and rationalization for inline and promotional products. Key capabilities include Insights & Analytics, Portfolio & Innovation Strategy, Pricing & Financial Management, and Product Development & Program Management. A passion for driving results as well as an aptitude for leading teams and fostering cross functional collaboration are critical to success. Expertise in our categories or understanding of our consumers is a plus. Capability details include:
Insights & Analytics
  • Translates data to insights, insights to actionable strategies, and strategies to execution
  • Sustains market understanding through ongoing and in-depth research that indicates emerging trends, customer and consumer needs, and competitive products and strategies
  • Demonstrates a curiosity for consumer understanding that yields proprietary insights and strategies used to create and sustain competitive advantage with consumers and customers
  • Educates others on the consumer and marketplace, providing context for strategies and priorities
  • Identifies knowledge gaps and champions analyses or new studies to fill these gaps
Portfolio & Innovation Strategy
  • Develops multi-year strategies and tactical plans to drive sales and market share growth, enhanced profitability, and brand strength
  • Partners with brand management to drive the brand’s portfolio strategy, including brand architecture, innovation cadence, channel strategy and segmentation, and promotion strategy
  • Maintains and develops against a 3–5-year pipeline of new product projects to sustain meaningful product differentiation that is compelling to the consumer and builds on the brand’s strategy or owned equities
  • Outlines product strategies and communication priorities to internal marketing partners to enable brand communications and effective activation of new product launches
  • Partners to set the innovation agenda for the brand or category that is deeply rooted in consumer understanding, macro trends, and market or competitive intelligence while disciplined to the brand’s position and its equities
  • Challenges status quo and brings new means for stimulating creativity and idea generation that yields market or brand development opportunities
  • Generates ideas and authors compelling concept statements for innovation, using in-field experience as well as qualitative and quantitative research to prioritize development of ideas
Pricing & Financial Management
  • Uses shopper insights, POS data, and market landscape understanding to recommend base and promotional pricing strategies and guardrails
  • Utilizes product and pack configurations and brand architecture to drive Average Unit Retails while sustaining brand price positioning and margin goals
  • Understands and helps manage pricing waterfall through customer programming and pricing strategies
  • Strong financial acumen including comprehensive understanding of a P&L and how we can influence results through volume, mix management, pricing, and cost levers
  • Utilizes financial data and analysis when recommending investment in capital or major expense
  • Adept in margin mix modeling to inform portfolio and innovation planning
Product Development & Program Management
  • Leads end-to-end product development including defining strategic and financial intent, required product specifications or performance criteria, design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing coordination
  • Establishes and manages project timelines and tasks managed through a defined stage gate process
  • Creates and presents project business cases through the stage gate process
  • Champions the cross functional project team and drives task completion project management skills and tools
Qualifications:
Assistant Product Managers are expected to have a basic awareness of capability areas and be able to lead tasks independently upon receiving coaching and direct guidance. An ideal candidate will likely have:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or a related field
  • 0-3 years of experience in product management or marketing, within outdoor industry a plus
  • Eagerness to learn and develop marketing capabilities
  • Strong organization and project management skills
  • Strategic thinking and analytical abilities
