Overview of Executive Director of the Counseling Center

Our Counseling Center at Purdue Northwest is seeking an Executive Director. The Counseling Center provides free and confidential mental health counseling services to currently enrolled PNW students, at both our Hammond and Westville campuses, by providing psychological and educational services to deal with personal, vocational and academic issues. Counseling services are provided by licensed mental health professionals. The Executive Director of the Counseling Center serves as the chief mental health officer on campus and oversees the operations of student counseling services in the Counseling Center. The Executive Director should be a visionary leader who will help guide and shape the Counseling Center as it continues to evolve to meet the needs of PNW students. The Executive Director will oversee the development and review of policies, procedures, and outcomes of the Counseling Center. The Executive Director is responsible for developing a strategic plan and vision for mental health and counseling services on campus. The Executive Director will oversee a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals, trainees, and support staff with a goal of providing exceptional clinical services and outreach-education-prevention programming to students as well as consultation to faculty, staff, and the University community. The Executive Director will provide and/or delegate clinical supervision of trainees.

Pay: $100,000 - $110,000

Duties and Responsibilities of Executive Director of the Counseling Center
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Counseling Center at PNW (Hammond and Westville) through administrative supervision of staff, clinical case assignment, and development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Coordinate psychological assessment of students.
  • Evaluate Counseling Center programs and services.
  • Maintain compliance with State mental health law and FERPA regulations.
  • Provide and/or coordinate clinical supervision of trainee clinical work with PNW students in accordance with established APA training requirement standards.
  • Coordinate recruitment of graduate-level practicum interns annually.
  • Provide individual counseling to currently enrolled Purdue Northwest students, as necessary given demand.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and university administrators; participate in division and college-wide committees and efforts to support and improve student life and retention.
  • Oversees outreach programming and consultation efforts to students, administrators, faculty and staff.
  • Serve as EHR database administrator for clinical records/tracking system, reports, and clinical management of services.
  • Contact person for after-hours crisis coverage, consultation and guidance.

Education Executive Director of the Counseling Center
  • Terminal degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) from an American Psychological Association Accredited University or Professional School of Psychology with clinical supervised training commensurate with the demands of a position at an IHE Institution of Higher Education
  • Must hold a valid, unrestricted license as Psychologist with HSPP status within the state of Indiana within three months of start date to provide clinical supervision to staff and trainees.
Experience Executive Director of the Counseling Center
  • 5 years’ experience with clinical psychological services and strong leadership in academic settings
  • Experience providing clinical supervision, developing programs that provide professional training for interns to assist in the clinical services that are delivered to students
