Job Summary: 

The Value Add Mechanical Engineer is responsible for oversight and support for functions related to steel tubing fabrication. This includes support for both local manufacturing (when needed) and for being a corporate authority on value-added practices/capabilities. The incumbent will report to the Product Development Lead/Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

This position acts as a support role to the plants as needed. This can include troubleshooting manufacturing issues, capability studies and improvement, designing tooling, equipment upgrades and purchases, programming CNCs, working knowledge of PLCs, and other programming.

This position is also responsible for being a technical subject matter expert regarding manufacturing processes and capabilities. The Value Add (VA) Mechanical Engineer plays a key role in determining the feasibility of new product inquiries. This can involve cooperating with customer design teams on manufacturability and product optimization; examples include recommending more realistic product shape/size, tolerances, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure absolute adherence to all safety and quality standards and process requirements.
  • Provide manufacturing and/or technical knowledge and skills to support PTC Alliance’s business processes to meet business goals.
  • Provide technical expertise to support the Value Added plants of PTC with the manufacturing of new and existing parts.
  • Development and optimization of process control parameters for Value Added operations to ensure compliance with internal procedures and customer requirements.
  • Coordination of trials with the intent of further improving quality and productivity.
  • Development and implementation of standard data collection plans and reporting techniques.
  • Product qualification and report generation.
  • Work with equipment and tooling designers, manufacturing and maintenance teams to develop cost effective and efficient production procedures.
  • Provide technical support to customers and sales regarding product applications.
  • Interface with customers directly when a field claim has been initiated and lead to the appropriate resolution.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The incumbent is expected to understand that all employees have a shared responsibility for the quality of products and related services provided to our customers. Minimum Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in engineering
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as cutting, turning, cold forming, and threading
  • Understanding of statistical process control. Minitab experience is a plus
  • Understanding of CAD (Solid Edge or equivalent) and mechanical drawings
  • Understanding of metrology, inspection practices
  • Understanding of G-code and other programming languages (preferred)
  • Understanding of mechanical components
  • Understanding of electrical components is a plus
  • Materials (specifically steel metallurgy) knowledge is a plus
