Summary:
The Program Director will lead a specialized urgent care clinic designed to provide rapid engagement, assessment, and intervention for individuals experiencing escalating psychiatric crises. The clinic offers a voluntary alternative to traditional psychiatric emergency services, with a focus on social rehabilitation principles. The goal is to prevent further deterioration into acute crisis or grave disability, particularly for economically disadvantaged and vulnerable residents. The program is client-centered, culturally competent, and compassionate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily clinic operations, ensuring alignment with social rehabilitation philosophy.
  • Lead a cohesive clinic staff to effectively respond to diverse client needs and prevent hospitalization.
  • Develop and implement protocols to meet mental health system needs safely and supportively.
  • Review and enhance clinic care systems, including physical space improvements for client care and safety.
  • Establish and maintain continuous quality improvement procedures; recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with psychiatric and medical care standards, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage personnel operations, including supervision and development of nursing, clinical, and support staff.
  • Foster relationships with clients, the community, partnered agencies, and other programs to support clients through crises.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements, quality assurance, and Medi-Cal criteria.
  • Review documentation for compliance with funding sources, agency policy, and legal guidelines.
  • Handle incident reports and assist with action plans for critical incidents.
  • Conduct routine audits of client records to ensure data quality and documentation accuracy; communicate corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide staff training on policies, procedures, and client care improvements.
  • Manage the program budget, including supplies, household items, food, and salaries.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
  • Detail-oriented with an understanding of larger system functions.
  • Knowledge and passion for alternatives to hospitalization and social rehabilitation for mental health crises.
  • Strong skills in crisis de-escalation, conflict resolution, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and with a team, reason logically, and use sound judgment.
  • Effective oral and written communication; able to establish cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to evaluate program activities, analyze problems, and implement corrective actions.
  • Sound judgment in decision-making aligned with ethical standards.

Qualifications:

  • Valid and current California license as a Psychologist, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, LCSW, or LMFT.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a mental health setting.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in staff management and supervision.
  • Must maintain criminal record clearance with Community Care Licensing.
