BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The QMHP identifies, plans, organizes, develops, and directs overall behavioral health services, in accordance with current federal, state, and local rules and regulations and as may be directed by the Administrator. The QMHP will oversee and assist with behavioral health needs all three NF units (NF/ICF and NF/PMI) Goal is to facilitate the effective recovery and rehabilitation of residents served while utilizing available resources appropriately to ensure behavioral health services are present, safe, welcoming, purposeful, productive and competently delivered.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·Must be capable of regular and predictable attendance at a specific location in order to perform assigned tasks.

·Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and employee development of the Safety Tech Position; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

·Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of behavioral services, education services, trainings for staff and contracted qualified mental health professionals.

oPlans, assigns, directs, and monitors the work flow of Behavioral Services, including the above services listed.

oCommunicates regularly with Psychiatrists regarding resident needs, and helps manage all on site visits with the assistance of the DON, ADON and Social Workers.

oPerforms quarterly audits of behavior documentation

·Actively fosters, maintains, and assures a competent Behavioral Services staff as follows: coordinates, performs, and/or monitors recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified applicants; coordinates, performs, and/or monitors appropriate training, competence testing, and performance appraisals for all behavioral services staff, including recognition, reward, and disciplinary processes.

·Provide 1:1 Counseling to residents on a daily basis using combination of various therapeutic techniques to address problem-solving, impulse control, interpersonal conflict, past traumas, or various other stressors.

·Educate staff on approach, behavioral modification techniques, individual programs, and various other information that will ensure successful admission and continuity of mental health care

·Track psychotropic medications and how they correlate with a resident’s diagnosis, to ensure there is sufficient documentation to warrant antipsychotic, anxiolytic, antidepressant, and anti-convulsant medications.

·Provide immediate redirection and intervention when behavioral disturbances occur. Meet with residents when individual issues arise to assist in implementing interventions.

·Develops new policies as needed and reviews and revises existing policies and procedures with Administrator approval to facilitate the mission and goals of the facility regarding mental health.

oInterprets existing policies and protocols to personnel, persons served and their families, community agencies, consultants, visitors, and ancillary service providers.

·Participates actively to facilitate making appropriate decisions on referrals and placements in a timely manner.

·Develops, monitors, communicates, and revises individualized plans as needed the initial and ongoing behavioral plan of care for persons served to facilitate a successful and stable transition and appropriate plan of care thereafter.

oDevelops skill building plans for residents.

·Develop, monitor, review, and revise as needed protocols and programs to aid in recovery and mental health rehabilitation support of persons at the facility.

·Develops individualized programs that is communicated to direct care staff for behavioral health needs, before admission to facilitate successful and stable transitions.

oDirect and monitor the implementation and effectiveness of each persons’ served behavioral plan of care, including regular and periodic personal contact with the person served and actively participating in care conferencing with the interdisciplinary team.

·Demonstrates consistent ability to effectively respond to Behavioral Health Service and customer and employee concerns, emergency situations, and organizational challenges.

·Assures resident safety at all times.

·Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

·Supervision is received from Administrator or other designated official.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited college in Social Work and two years or more work experience in serving individuals with behavioral health needs OR

·A Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) per state regulations/definition is preferred or applicant has the ability to complete the requirements for QMHP preferred: 

oholds at least a master’s degree in a mental health field, including but not limited to: psychology, counseling and guidance, nursing and social work; or is a doctor of medicine (M.D.) or a doctor of osteopathic medicine and surgery (D.O.) AND

ohas at least two years of post-degree experience, supervised by a mental health professional, in assessing mental, behavioral problems and needs of individuals and in providing appropriate mental health services for those individuals.

·Must have a valid Iowa driver’s license and be insurable under the County’s policies.

·Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and a professional work demeanor.
