Description

THE ROLE

We are seeking an individual who can serve as Vice President, Corporate Development for Providence. This individual will have the requisite corporate development and M&A experience to identify potential M&A and partnership opportunities in conjunction with Providence’s broader strategy, drive negotiations from inception to completion, and provide ongoing management (as required) to help various partnerships and/or acquisitions meet our performance aspirations. Additionally, the individual will help provide oversight and strategic guidance to existing strategic partners.

This role comes at a pivotal moment. Providence has recently expanded its diversified revenue streams as part of its Health 2.0 vision, including its launch of Tegria. Tegria is a new company formed as a subsidiary of Providence, with a goal of delivering integrated technology solutions and services to help health organizations operate more efficiently, improve long-term wellbeing, and better serve their communities. In addition, Providence has expanded its approach to partnering with leading organizations (e.g., Microsoft, Nuance, GRAIL, Truveta) to satisfy internal requirements as well as align long-term incentives around jointly identified priorities. These discussions require a “single voice” to ensure Providence’s aspirations and needs are represented appropriately in partnership discussions.

As a leader with significant M&A and partnership negotiation and management experience, this individual will play an integral role within the Providence team. This will include, but not be limited to:

  • Helping identify how, and which, partners and acquisitions can support Providence’s broader growth agenda;

  • Maintaining a pipeline of potential partners and acquisition opportunities which can support Providence’s strategic vision, and leading negotiations to achieve Providence’s goals; and,

  • Developing a M&A center of excellence to effectively manage and complete due diligence and integration planning for acquisitions into Tegria, in alignment with Providence

You will be expected to lead (directly and indirectly) a team of employees and vendors to achieve these goals and to recruit and hire to fill additional roles as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Mission Alignment

  • Define and exhibit Providence’s core mission and values, including enforcing adherence to in-house policies and high ethical standards

Strategy and Financials

  • Actively develop and maintain the pipeline of relationships with external organizations which Providence may partner with or acquire (incl. developing relationships with other organizations’ strategy and corporate development officers, laying the groundwork for broader alliance discussions, etc.)

  • Drive due diligence of acquisition targets and help lead integration efforts (as required) based on identified strategies

  • Provide strategic direction to Providence’s strategic alliances as required, helping drive engagement and alignment across Providence and the partner organizations

Leadership

  • Support the EVP, Chief Commercial Officer with engaging internal and external stakeholders, act as their delegate when appropriate, and establish internal credibility regarding corporate development’s goals and strategies (integrating with others where necessary)

  • Provide leadership to newly acquired organizations as they accelerate and integrate relevant GTM and ROB activities

  • Manage a team of 2-10 direct reports, including AVPs, Executive Directors, Managers, and analysts

  • Support the identification, recruiting, and retention of talent to further expand the Corporate Development function

  • Serve as a member of the Corporate Development leadership team; collaborate with the VP of Corporate Development and the EVP, Chief Commercial Officer to shape the culture and strategic direction of the Corporate Development team

Culture

  • Foster a culture of internal innovation and entrepreneurship; launch and sustain an inclusive and supportive working environment; represent Corporate Development within Providence; and manage relationships with external partners, investors, and the public community

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree – any field

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Engineering, Law, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)

  • Master’s Degree – Engineering, Law, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)

  • Doctorate – Medicine (preferred)

  • Minimum 10 years in increasingly senior roles, with at least one successful prior Director (or greater) role at either a Healthcare, Technology, or Consulting company

  • Minimum 5 years Demonstrated success in cultivating and delivering on corporate partnerships, acquisitions, or venture rounds

  • Minimum 5 years Demonstrated direct or indirect leadership of Analysts, Associates, Managers, or Directors

  • Minimum 5 years Background in healthcare, technology, and strategy consulting

  • Sound financial management skills

  • Effective senior level communications and executive engagement and facilitation skills, including the ability to represent Corporate Development with external stakeholders

  • Success in managing a portfolio of business relationships at different stages of maturity

  • Strong knowledge of industry dynamics and related technologies within Healthcare, Technologies, and Services industries.
