Description

THE ROLE

The Executive Director Strategy and Business Development provides business development leadership for the implementation of strategic business development ventures and service line development for the Division, including but not limited to strategic planning, capital planning, mergers/acquisitions, and collaborative joint ventures with other providers and partners. This position will also develop business plans and other strategic planning material as required to support business decisions, program development and implementation. The incumbent provides leadership and coordination on development of construction projects, coordinates and develops annual goals and objectives, and is responsible for the strategic planning process of the Service Area. The Executive Director will also provide strategic expertise/counsel for the Executive Leadership of the Division and give valuable input and support to various Regional and System groups, committees, initiatives and projects.

The position oversees the portfolio development and strategic market growth of service lines within the Division to ensure seamless patient management along the care continuum offering cost efficient and high quality services that are competitive in the marketplace. Duties include guiding strategic plans consistent with the PSJH Integrated Strategic Financial Plan, conducting annual goal setting, performance monitoring, physician relationship strategies, outreach program and performance improvement initiatives. This position is accountable for assessing, planning, developing and implementing strategies and tactics to achieve optimal financial performance, cost efficiency, clinical superiority, and market leadership. The incumbent will work with physicians and administrative colleagues, providing information and analysis for the planning, direction, and development of assigned service lines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Active participant and member of the Executive Leadership team by furthering achievement of strategies, goals and objectives and reporting systems: Actively and willingly participates in assigned committees, task forces and other work groups. Attend management/retreats and/or other management functions. Participates in management skills development.

  • Lead strategy and vision for the Service Area using data driven approach to development of business plans, programs, goals and objectives: Responsible for and leading in new business strategies such as physician ventures, partnership and other joint ventures developed throughout the Service Area in partnership with respective executives. Lead development of strategic plans, annual goals, and objectives and necessary reporting systems.

  • Directly manages all strategic capital requests ensuring comprehensive oversight of the identification, planning, and presentation of such requests to the Regional Capital Committee, System Capital Strategic Investment Council and Growth Council.

  • Direct the development of effective service line growth and outreach programs, to achieve optimal evolution and NOI performance goals. Participate in Service Area service line and organizational committees to coordinate market and program development across the Service Area.

  • Conduct routine service line portfolio review and makes overall strategic recommendations to ensure growth aspirations can be achieved on an annual basis as well as ensure a balanced market performance position.

  • Establish, in collaboration with Finance, growth targets for ISFP process as well as annual budget growth goals.

  • Ensure that growth targets are established and tracked on an annual, quarterly and monthly basis.

  • Participate in PH&S committees and projects to ensure System best practices are shared and incorporated into service line strategies and structures.

  • Establish and review plans per annual process targets. Plans must display action plans in regard to work plans, meetings held, etc.

  • Coordinate merger/affiliation work at the service line level with other organizations, including coordinating contract development/opportunity assessment / operational set up.

  • Serve as a business development consultant to Medical and Operational Leaders in the process of bringing growth ideas to new product execution on time: Product idea to execution process. Must also achieve timeline expectations as measured by project target goals.

  • Ensure that service line specific plans are created, reviewed, and implemented per plan expectations.

  • Ensure best practices are shared and consistently applied across all service lines.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or related field; and master's degree MBA or MHA/MPH. Experience in the medical industry may be consider in lieu of an advanced degree.

  • 7 years of experience in business development or complex business project management experience.

  • 7 years of documented success in sales, business development or program management.

  • 5 years of progressively responsible administrative or leadership experience. 10 years of experience is preferred.

  • 5 years of experience collaborating directly with healthcare executives and decision makers, physicians, hospitals, discharge planners and other health care providers.

  • 5 years of sales or business development experience within the State of Oregon's healthcare marketplace (preferred).

  • Understands and contributes to the development of key organizational priorities in the area of physician alignment, partnership strategies and payor models.

  • Manages relationships across various teams within highly complex and matrixed organization.

  • Anticipates and takes personal responsibility for customer satisfaction.

  • Consistently goes out of the way to listen, understand and support the needs of others in a sensitive manner.
