PROLOGUE JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title : Outreach Worker (adults), Homeless Outreach Program
General Description :
The Outreach Worker identifies and engages people living in unsheltered locations, such as in cars, parks, encampments, abandoned buildings and on the streets in the Baltimore County.
The Outreach Worker works with people who might not otherwise seek assistance, and ensures that their immediate basic needs are met at the point of engagement.
The Outreach Worker is responsible for conducting outreach to adults, providing information and referrals, and rendering person-centered services.
FLSA : Non-exempt
Reports to : Program Director
Required Education, Knowledge and Skill Abilities to Perform Essential Job Functions :
An Associate's degree is required, but a Bachelor's degree with a major in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or Education is preferred.
Experience working with special populations is also preferred. Flexibility and the ability to work as part of a team are necessary.
A valid Maryland Driver's License with a clean driving record (less than one point) is also essential. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, the internet and other computer applications is required.
Ability to respect individual choice and a commitment to serving the homeless population is a must. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
The ideal candidate is compassionate, adaptable, flexible, creative, takes initiative and able to work independently.
Physical Requirements : This position requires daily driving, standing, lifting up to 25 pounds, and working outside in all types of weather year-round.
Summary of Essential Functions, Responsibilities and Duties :
Provide direct, intensive and consistent outreach services to Baltimore County residents experiencing homelessness in accordance with grant requirements and program outcomes.
Services rendered will be provided in various settings, including encampments, on the streets and in other community areas.
