The Clinician is responsible for providing mental health services and supports to clients admitted to Progress Ranch mental health programs. The Clinician also works closely with the referring entity and program staff, consulting and collaborating on client’s progress and treatment plans. The Clinician will also serve as a program consultant to the Progress Ranch program assigned to.
Duties & Responsibilities (illustrated by typical activities)
1. Provide Mental Health Supports & Services for Each Client & Collateral Resources• Conduct clinical interviews in order to prepare assessments, and determine diagnoses to include mental health conditions, substance use disorders or co-occurring behavioral health conditions based on the client’s current clinical presentation, risk factors, and mental health, medical, developmental and trauma histories..• Develop and implement the mental health treatment planand discharge plans.• Provide direct mental health services to include individual therapy, family therapy, individual rehab, group rehab, crisis intervention, parent/collateral psychoeducation as well as intensive case management. • Provide services that are culturally and linguistically appropriate for each client served. • Attend monthly medication reviews for clients receiving or being considered for medication. • Serve as the primary service coordinator for each client assigned.• Direct and/or coordinate as needed with additional internal/external mental health staff providing services and supports to the same client. • Participate in the Child Family Team (CFT) or other multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings in order to coordinate mental health services and support sessions and inform Mental Health Treatment Plans and/or Needs and Services Plans.• Meet with client/collateral resources for medically necessary mental health services and supports. Must be trained in crisis de-escalation modeled used by the agency and to be prepared to provide crisis intervention and support in residential programs. • As needed, inform agency leadership and residential staff of critical issues identified during mental health sessions.• Provide collateral parties with information to best meet the client’s needs as necessary.• Communicate with referral source on issues concerning clients.• Assess, determine and make a referral when special services and/or care are needed for a child that are not available through Progress Ranch.2. Paperwork & Documentation• Write progress notes for each mental health service.• Complete appropriate county/referral source mental health documentation, including but not limited to assessmentstreatment plans, authorizations, ,, progress reports, health questionnaires, discharge plans, and all other required paperwork per county mental health plans and/or regulations.• Continuously review charts for new and/or relevant information concerning clients.• Prepare and maintain charts in accordance with audit requirements.• Perform Utilization Reviews as assigned.3. Training & Consultation• Become certified in the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) assessment/planning tool. • Attend clinical, house, planning, CFT, and discharge meetings and other appropriate meetings to consult and coordinate with clinical and program staff. • Attend weekly supervision meetings with the assigned supervisor.• Unlicensed clinicians must comply with California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) or California Board of Psychology (BOP) licensing requirements.• Licensed clinicians who have met the California BBS or BOP requirements to provide supervision, may be asked to provide weekly individual and/or group supervision for unlicensed clinicians so they may obtain licensing hours. • Attend external training/conferences to meet licensing requirements and keep up to date with current information, developments, and best practices.• Present information gathered at conferences, at clinical meetings, and staff in-services/training as appropriate.4. Other• Provide services in a variety of settings including the office, clinic, residential settings, homes, schools and other community settings pending the program assigned to and needs of the client. Demonstrate an ability to work with clients that can present with erratic and sometimes threatening behavior.• • Work a schedule that can include weekdays, evenings and weekends as needed. • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide clinical consultation for residential program staff when there is a crisis situation. • Perform other duties as assigned

5. Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as client safety/treatment plans, assessment materials and procedure manuals. Ability to write professional/clinical reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
6. Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Internet Explorer.
7. Education/Experience:
The licensed Clinician must possess a master’s degree or Doctoral Degree from an accredited school of Social Work or other graduate program in Psychology, Counseling or Marriage, Family and Child Counseling. Licensed Clinicians must be registered with the California BBS as an MFT, LCSW, or LPCC; or with the California Board of Psychology as a Psychologist.
Unlicensed Clinicians must possess a master’s degree or Doctoral Degree from an accredited school of Social Work or other graduate program in Psychology, Counseling or Marriage, Family and Child Counseling. Unlicensed Clinicians must also be registered with the California BBS as an ASW or MFT or PCC intern; or with the Board of Psychology as a Registered Psychologist or Psychology Assistant. Must receive MFT, LCSW, LPCC, or Psychology license within six years of initial registration with the California BBS as an intern.
Experience working in an inpatient or residential clinical setting is desired. A minimum of two years’ experience working with infant/toddlers, children, adolescents and families with emotional problems is required.
8. Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
LCSW, MFT, LPCC, or Psychology license.
Registration with the California BBS as an ASW or MFT intern or with the California BOP as a Registered Psychologist or Psychological Assistant is required. Must receive a California MFT, LCSW, LPCC, Psychology license within six years of initial registration with the California BBS/BOP as an intern.
Must possess a valid California Driver’s License, a reliable automobile and auto insurance.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
