Job Summary:
Duties: Care is for three children, one of whom has Autism. The position duties would
include general supervision and assistance with the children’s activities. Driving children to
afterschool activities, light cooking, and housekeeping. Familiar with developmental
disabilities and is open to working as part of a team. Provide help with pick-up/drop-off,
structuring their childs day, and working on potty training and ADL. Engage with children
in activities and play that stimulate their development. Appropriately supervise children and
keep them safe at all times. The caregiver should be able to mimic playfulness while also
keeping the structure of the day and supporting/prompting when time allows.
For the child with Special Needs, the nanny will be actively involved in child therapy
practices and be able to help generalize across settings:
Implementing therapy homework, creating and reinforcing routines, adapting the home
environment, tailoring creative activities to individual capabilities, modeling appropriate
behaviors, reinforcing and training in good social skills, hygiene care, feeding, taking
children to therapy appointments, working with the family to achieve developmental
milestones, therapeutic stretching, and exercises.
Additional duties for a child with special needs:
1. Helping pave the way and support effective strategies that can enhance a child with
special needs' overall well-being.
2. Sensory Support: Children with autism often have sensory sensitivities. Create a sensory-
friendly space at home, minimizing overwhelming stimuli and promoting comfort.
3. Communication Enhancement: Communication can be a challenge for children with
autism. Work on improving communication skills using techniques such as visual aids or
augmentative communication devices.
4. Social Skills: Children with autism typically struggle with social interactions. Engage a
child in activities that encourage social engagement, turn-taking, and understanding social
cues.
5. Routine Establishment: Predictability is essential for many children with autism.
Establish and maintain a consistent daily routine to provide a sense of stability that can be
reassuring for a child. 6. Self-Care Skills: teach and practice daily self-care skills such as
dressing, grooming, and hygiene. Use visual prompts and step-by-step instructions to help
the child learn in their environments to improve on a generalization of skills.
7. Behavioral Support: Behavioral challenges can arise, but a Care Professional with a
background in Occupational Therapy or Special Needs Education can help think through the
“why” behind the behavior and implement positive behavior support strategies to address
these challenges in a constructive manner.
8. Play and Learning: Learning through play is crucial for children with autism. Use play-
based activities to enhance your child’s cognitive, motor, and social skills in an enjoyable
way.
9. Emotional Regulation: Many children with autism struggle with managing emotions.
Work with the care team and integrate techniques on a daily basis to help a child recognize
and regulate their emotions effectively.
10. Family Collaboration: Involving the whole family in a child’s Individualized Care Plan,
work uniformly towards various needs and goals.
Requirements: Special Needs Nanny needed by private household in Palm Beach County,
FL with a High School/GED or its Foreign equivalent; Certificates in Pediatric First Aid,
Childhood Literacy and Behavioral Development, Administrative Occupation, and Au Pair
Training. At least 42 months of job experience as an Assistant for children with
neurodiversity is required.
