Princeton University is Hiring a Laboratory Manager Near Princeton, NJ

Overview

The Atkinson Laboratory in the Omenn-Darling Bioengineering Institute and Department of Civil and

Environmental Engineering at Princeton University is seeking a full-time Lab Manager.

The Atkinson Laboratory focuses on using protein engineering and synthetic biology approaches to

program electroactive proteins and cells to interface bacteria with electronic devices to control and

measure fluxes through metabolic circuits, and control geochemical cycles by altering how electrons flow

through microbial communities.

The Atkinson Laboratory seeks a highly-qualified lab manager to provide laboratory support to the

researchers in the lab and to conduct research independently. The main responsibilities of the Lab

Manager are to manage lab maintenance, including ordering, shipping, and receiving lab equipment and

supplies; ensuring lab safety is aligned with internal and external regulations; organizing lab supplies and

strain archives; and assistance in making buffer and media for common lab use. The Lab Manager will

also have an opportunity to contribute to research projects and learn additional research techniques.

This position offers the opportunity to help establish the research environment of a new laboratory. This

position will allow for both professional and laboratory skill development as well as co-authorship on

high-impact research articles. This is a 2-year term position, with opportunity for renewal. The PI is

devoted to developing a supportive research environment and fostering career development for all

members of the lab.

Responsibilities

- Ordering, establishing, and maintaining laboratory equipment and inventories of supplies,

reagents, and samples.

- Training students in basic laboratory techniques

- Establishing lab safety training protocals and meeting regulatory requirements.

- Help oversee that lab members keep a safe, clean, and productive working environment

- Performing a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to

prescribed protocols and assigned schedules and developing/documenting new laboratory

protocols

-Collaborating with other researchers in the lab

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

• Prior experience working in a research environment

• Experience in managing lab safety and meeting EHS regulations.

• Expertise in molecular biology and biochemistry

• Must be able to manage own time and prioritize tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office

• Experience with safety practices in an academic laboratory environment desired
