Department Description


POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Coordinating Supervisor, the Instructional Supervisor of Library Media Services is responsible for providing guidance to staff, collaborating with external stakeholders, monitoring department programs and initiatives, and preparing and monitoring budgets to include updates to circulations, materials and resources. The incumbent of this position provides guidance on the effective use of the media center, information and technology literacy skills, and use of equipment. The Instructional Supervisor selects and procures print and digital resources and related equipment, and develops instructional resources and materials for library media specialists, educators and students.

Salary Range:$111,842-$169,171

Detailed Description


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty
Satisfactorily.
  • Collaborates and leads curriculum development, implementation and revision;
  • Advises principals on the scope, development and improvement of school library media programs;
  • Coordinates, develops and supervises the implementation of library media Curriculum;
  • Assists in the planning, designing and coordination of professional development and training to school-based staff on effective instructional strategies and curriculum Resources;
  • Provides leadership and support to educators and support personnel to ensure compliance with laws, policies and regulations pertaining to library media goals;
  • Provides leadership to schools in the implementation of research-based and high impact practices that promote student achievement;
  • Provides professional learning opportunities for educators and library media personnel to foster innovative classroom practices with information technologies, literacy and other evidence-based practices;
  • Develops and manages the approved budget for Library Media Services; maintains strict fiscal accountability through the review of financial documents and procurement requests for central office operations and for requests submitted by schools utilizing departmental funding;
  • Evaluates assigned personnel in alignment with guidelines and procedures;
  • Examines current practices to identify opportunities to bring innovation to staff and Students;
  • Assists Human Resources with screening, interviewing and selection of department personnel; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements


QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Experience in developing curriculum framework;
  • Experience in the design and/or implementation of innovative techniques in library media and/or related fields;
  • Ability to support the recruitment and retention of school library personnel;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with the Microsoft suite and Google applications;
  • Ability to work with diverse populations;
  • Considerable knowledge of budgeting and reporting requirements;
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative competency; and
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills and effective human relations skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Masters degree from an accredited college or university in library science, library media or a closely related field required. A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching/media specialist experience with a minimum of two (2) years of administrative and/or supervisory experience required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds or is eligible for an Advanced Professional Certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education; Administrator I Certification required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees and provides guidance and direction to assigned personnel.
