The Prince George's County Government's Department of Family Services is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Deputy Director position (Deputy Director G), grade G35 within its Aging and Disabilities Services About the Position: 
This is an exempt management-level supervisory, professional, and administrative position that provides key management, administrative, and technical support to the Director and may be placed in charge of the Department in the absence of the Director. The incumbent is responsible for the supervision of the Management Services, Aging and Disabilities Services, Children, Youth & Families, and the Domestic Violence/Human Trafficking Divisions. Work is performed with a wide latitude for independent judgment and action under the general supervision of the Director and is evaluated based on the achievement of the agency's goals and objectives.   • Exercises the full range of supervisory duties and responsibilities as defined in the Personnel Law.
  • Assists the Director in developing comprehensive long and short-range strategies designed to achieve Departmental goals and objectives and establishes priorities as necessary to accomplish them.
  • Serves as the Director’s representative and spokesperson in meetings, regarding the Department of Family Services activities, and may chair functional management groups and ad hoc committees.
  • Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Director in her absence.
  • Exercises technical management oversight for all operations, activities, programs, and projects accomplished within the agency.
  • Oversees and assists with the Financial Services operations in coordination with the Director.
  • Analyzes technical performance reports, correspondence, and contracts. Reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations to the Director regarding areas of Departmental responsibility.
  • Performs oversight and planning of the Department’s strategic plans and long-term goals.
  • Oversees the Department of Family Services’ finance and budget activities through cooperative efforts with the Director, coordinates with the Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Finance, as appropriate.
  • Investigates and researches difficult and complex inquiries, problems, or complaints and initiates appropriate solutions to address/resolve them.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other governmental and bi-county agencies, private organizations, and the general public.
  • Ability to lead, inspire, motivate, evaluate, and counsel subordinate management/ supervisory staff and delegate responsibility to them as appropriate. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively; listen effectively and share information both internally and externally. 
  • Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position descriptions, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s class of work.
What You'll Need
  • Graduation from college or equivalent plus experience of a type, duration, level of complexity, diversity, and responsibility to be determined at the time of announcement, which has provided the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties in the appropriate executive level functional area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience: At least seven (8) years of extensive experience in state or local government operations administration, with at least four (5) years in a senior leadership, managerial, or supervisory capacity.
  • Education: Master’s degree in management, public administration, business administration, law (J.D.), or a related field.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Must complete a thorough background investigation.

DURATION OF ELIGIBILITY: Candidates will be selected from a temporary register of eligible candidates, which will become effective approximately four (4) weeks after the closing date. Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.
