Overview

IS Data Governance Manager/Catalog Lead is a part of the Data Analytics & AI team and supports the corporation's project goals and will report to the Data Governance & Quality Manager. This role will drive the data catalog implementation across the enterprise. This involves applying best practices to structuring, curating, and managing the Business Glossary and Data Catalog assets/domains.

The successful applicant will work Downtown, New York, on a hybrid basis (two days/week onsite). The annual salary range for this position is $112,000 - $117,400, with an annual discretionary incentive opportunity targeting up to 10% of salary.

Responsibilities

  • Provides operational excellence for the Data Governance department, focusing on metadata management, data cataloging, and lineage management.
  • Defines, implements, and manages all aspects of the catalog design, stewardship policy, and visibility policies of the various databases and data assets.
  • Leads analysis, development, build, and deployment of an Enterprise Data Catalog that addresses data lineage in support of privacy, security, regulatory, legal, and audit initiatives.
  • Establishes and enforces standards, guidelines, and procedures for cataloging data while ensuring data quality and consistency within the catalog.
  • Facilitates and collaborate with data owners, data stewards and other stakeholders to define enterprise business terms and assist with bringing resolution to data quality concerns and issues.
  • Partners with both the business and technical SMEs to establish relationships between business assets, such as business terms, and data or technical assets, such as policy and reports, and assist with the documentation of data movement and data lineage of enterprise data assets.
  • Establishes and documents procedures to harvest and curate data assets, including classifying mastered and reference data, identifying the authoritative source, and what and where sensitive data resides.
  • Facilitates knowledge sharing and encourage the use of data catalog across the organization.
  • Responsible for developing workflows and automation around Data Governance processes and collaborating between the business data community and technical community.
  • Works closely with Data Governance teams to align objectives and enhance Data Governance capabilities through the catalog.
  • Facilitates and documents data ownership roles, including elements, definitions, transformations, calculations, relationships and lineage to enhance understanding and traceability of data elements.
  • Selects and implements data catalog tools and technologies that meet organization’s needs. Partner with tool vendors on product(s) functionality to maximize our usage of the capabilities within the product.
  • Writes and maintains a Stewardship Policy which promotes the use of the Data Catalog for generating business value, all the while respecting data governance principles Writes and maintains a Stewardship Policy which promotes the use of the Data Catalog for generating business value, all the while respecting data governance principles.
  • Oversees the collection, storage, and management of metadata within the catalog. Monitor and modify metadata extracts, query log ingestion, and profiling and partner with IT and others to resolve anomalies.
  • Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable job attendance.
  • Attends on-site and in-person meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Analytics or related analytical field; and 4-6 years of professional experience with Data Architecture, Data Modeling, Data Warehousing, and Business Intelligence concepts as it relates to Master Data Management & Data Governanceor an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Communications Abilities:(Verbal) Expresses oneself clearly in conversations and interactions with others; tailors speech to the level and experience of the audience; uses appropriate grammar and choice of words; expresses ideas in a concise, organized manner; maintains eye contact when speaking with others; (Written) Expresses oneself clearly and concisely in writing; tailors written communications to effectively reach an audience; uses graphics and other aids to clarify complex or technical information; spells correctly; writes using concrete, specific language; uses punctuation correctly; writes grammatically.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to understand and interpret statistical reports, data charts and graphs.

Technology Skills: Experience with Data Catalog Tool such as OCI Data Catalog, Attacama ONE, or similar Data Catalog/Quality Tool. Working knowledge on PL/SQL and APIs. Experience administering a data catalog.
