Fleet Laboratories is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technicianthis position will understand role responsibilities and support facility operations through the experienced, knowledgeable application of higher-level facility maintenance skills.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to an array of electrical, compressed air, HVAC-R, plumbing and other physical plant utilities, equipment and systems.
  • Execute assigned preventive maintenance and corrective work orders on-time and in a quality, professional manner.
  • Perform scheduled daily, weekly and monthly inspections of facilities and related equipment such as fire extinguishers, exit/emergency lighting, ladders, storm drain inlets, and roofs.
  • Install electrical conduit, boxes, disconnects, breakers, lighting fixtures, etc. Pull wire and make appropriate terminations.
  • Size and install new electrical equipment services.
  • Work with 480/277 and 208/120 VAC, three-phase power, and equipment.
  • Make recommendations for safety, efficiency, equipment or process improvements.
  • Utilize test instruments to effectively troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, or HVAC-R equipment/systems for root cause.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose medium pressure steam boiler or system problems.
  • Use various fittings and methods to fit and support black iron, copper, stainless steel, or other types of pipe and tubing.
  • Using various electrical test instruments, troubleshoot and accurately diagnose electrical problems.
  • Keep work areas, mechanical and electrical rooms in safe, organized condition at all times.
  • Safety - Must be a safety leader who models a safety-first mindset. Follows all safety policies and procedures and maintains a safe, clean, organized work environment. Immediately reports all safety observations, near-misses, or other potential safety hazards.
  • Attendance and Dependability - Must be dependable and report to work on time as scheduled. Should be willing to work scheduled as well as unscheduled overtime, weekends, or holidays to correct breakdowns, complete projects, respond to emergencies or weather events as needed to support the business. Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Conduct – Does the right thing. Comports themselves with character and integrity. Represents the Department in a mature, professional manner. Understands and supports company goals and objectives. Maintains constructive, positive relationships with personnel at all levels of the organization. Engaged, self-motivated team player who does quality work with little to no supervision.
  • Communication - Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing to keep supervisors, team members or other departments informed of problems, repair status or other issues.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU WILL BRING

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • A.S. degree, apprenticeship, or other approved vocational or trade certificate/diploma program.
  • 7 years of verifiable, non-residential electrical and maintenance experience.

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Virginia DPOR Journeyman or Master electrical and/or HVAC license.
  • EPA Section 608 & 609 Technician Type Universal Refrigerant Recovery license.
  • Additional training on safe handling of HFC refrigerants such as R410A & R407C.
  • Building Automation System experience.
  • Experience working in a cGMP, regulated environment.
  • Understanding of electricity and electrical safety, Ohm’s Law, AC and DC circuits and controls; three-phase power; National Electrical Code (NEC); NFPA-70E Arc Flash.
  • Proficient use of diagnostic instruments such as multimeters, clamp ammeters or other test equipment.
  • Basic familiarity with PLCs, VFDs; computers, networks and devices, building automation controls.
  • Read and understand blueprints, assembly/mechanical drawings, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, submittals and specifications.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC-R principles and repairs.
  • Safe handling and recovery of refrigerants.
  • Basic understanding of the International Mechanical Code.
  • Able to read measuring devices such as rulers, tape measures and calipers.
  • Safe, skillful use of hand and power tools.
