Presbyterian Village North is currently looking for a Fitness Specialist to spread happiness and help people live their best life!

Position: Full Time

Shift: - Monday Friday

8 hours/day; times can be flexible.

The Fitness Specialist will follow the direction of the Wellness Manager to assist in management of the day-to-day operations in our beautiful fitness amenities including a pool, fitness center, and group fitness studio. You will have the opportunity to grow and gain experience in setting customer service standards, working with residents, developing, and maintaining a group fitness program, and other duties as assigned.

Group fitness classes will be at the core of this position and the successful candidate will have interest in teaching a variety of land and aquatic classes specific to the geriatric population. The Specialist must demonstrate initiative, organization skills, mature judgement, knowledge of fitness components and equipment and aids the wellness team as deemed necessary. The Fitness Specialist will assist in conducting fitness assessments, exercise prescriptions, instruction of group fitness classes, assistance with wellness programming and membership instruction and engagement. Technology is something that forms the basis for your work, so the candidate must possess a comfortable level of technology use.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Teaches group exercise classes and provides a range of acceptable activities to meet various fitness levels of class participants; adheres to appropriate safety guidelines while keeping classes inviting, challenging, and well-attended.

Supervises fitness center and uses educational background and other relevant training to accurately and safely answer resident questions related to health, fitness, and wellbeing.

Assesses health status of residents, ranging from healthy to high-risk, to provide exercise and other wellness-related counsel/recommendations unique to each resident through exercise prescriptions, fitness assessments and other related services.

Conducts orientations according to the facility layout, membership policies/procedures, and Quality Assurance guidelines.

Establishes an ongoing positive and professional rapport with residents.

Supports special events (e.g., races, charity walks)

Cross-trains to learn responsibilities of other full-time staff.

Partners with other staff to help clean equipment and other areas of the facility as needed.

Demonstrates work ethic, ingenuity, customer care, and attention to detail.

Ability to teach balance, seated exercise and muscle conditioning group fitness classes; where applicable, aquatic experience preferred.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree in biology, physiology, exercise physiology or related field preferred.

Preferred certification as personal trainer, exercise specialist, fitness instructor, health and fitness specialist or similar area, preferred.

Background in exercise and activity training with senior populations preferred.

Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred.

ACSM and other Industry Certifications acknowledged.
