  • JOB DESCRIPTION : PHARMACY BUYER*
  • Description of Responsibilities*

The Pharmacy Buyer is responsible for carrying out all purchases necessary for the pharmacy to consistently operate with all needed products, equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities include the following : *

1. Manage purchases regarding all products, equipment and supplies needed by the pharmacy.

2. Control purchase order numbers, maintain documentation of all purchase orders, and compare items received against existing purchase orders to confirm receipt of all necessary items.

3. Monitor purchases to confirm that they remain within the pharmacy budget; obtain approval from Chief Executive Officer for all purchases above a pre-determined limit.

4. Prepare invoices for payment and submit to Accounts Payable.

5. Oversee record keeping so that all information is accurate and complete, and manage the flow of up-to-date information between Procurement Department and other parts of the pharmacy, such as the Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payables departments.

6. Monitor operational expenses for compliance with the pharmacy expense budget.

7. Generate and analyze financial reports on purchasing, and provide these reports to supervisor.

8. Maintain lot number for recalls.

9. Report equipment hazards and / or product incidents as required in compliance with pharmacy policy.

10. Ensure the implementation of processes to measure, assess, and improve the performance of the Procurement Department activities of the pharmacy.

11. Ensure ongoing compliance with all laws and regulations; ensure that the department meets or exceeds accreditation standards;

and implement ’best practices’’ in all departmental activities.

12. Participate in surveys conducted by authorized inspection agencies.

13. Participate in the pharmacy’s Performance Improvement program as requested by the Performance Improvement Coordinator.

14. Participate in pharmacy committees when requested.

15. Participate in in-service education programs provided by the pharmacy.

16. Pursue continuing education programs appropriate to job responsibilities.

17. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications : *

1. At least one (1) year Buyer / Procurement in Home Infusion Pharmacy or Hospital.

2. Effective interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.

3. Ability to evaluate options and to make efficient decisions.

4. Organizational skills sufficient to maintain consistently accurate records.

5. Computer skills that include proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing, and efficient use of the internet and e-mail.

Education and / or Experience : *

1. Must have a High School diploma or Graduation Equivalent Diploma (G.E.D.) or Higher.

2. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to express technical issues in layman terms.

3. Current Pharmacy Technician certification / license with at least 3 years of hospital or home infusion pharmacy experience is preferred

4. Experience in pharmaceuticals procurement, contract buying practices and have excellent math application skills.

5. Strong knowledge of Pharmacy products including strengths, dosage forms, is preferred Professional, detail-oriented with high degree of accuracy, ability to organize, multi-task and prioritize accordingly.
