Premier Healthcare is Hiring a Staff Development / Infection Control Nurse Near Philmont, NY

The Staff Development Coordination is an integral member of our leadership team that contributes directly to the development of team members. The education that they provide is a key aspect of our delivery of quality care.

Responsibilities Include:

1. Plans and conducts new employee orientation for all new staff. Other department managers will be enlisted to participate, present, and share in the responsibilities of new employee orientation.

2. Ensures that competencies are completed for all new nurses according to the established schedule within 30 days of hire.

3. Acts as System Administrator for all educational management systems.

4. Ensures that regular and required in-services are scheduled and held according to state/federal requirements, and holds periodic in-services for areas found to be weak or in need of improvement through the QI process. Delivers required in-services on all shifts and weekends as needed.

5. Provides initial and ongoing EMR (Electronic Medical Record) training to all staff.

6. Maintains employee health files. Tracks and records PPD tests (or chest x-rays) and other required infection control monitoring for employees.

7. Maintains training files in his/her office in an orderly system.

8. Assists with audits and Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement projects as needed as a member of the facility QAPI committee.

9. Meets regularly with the nursing management team and Administrator to share observations, discuss solutions to identified trends and concerns and establish educational priorities.

Required Qualifications:

1. Current RN licensure in the state where employed.

2. BSN / MSN degree preferred.

3. Three to five years of progressive management/education experience in a long-term, sub-acute or post-acute care setting is preferred.

4. Ability to work flexible work hours to support state and federal resident care requirements.

We are also merging this role with Infection Control:

Infection Control Nurse (schedule is M-F with rotating weekends)

As the Infection Control Nurse you will plan, organize, develop, coordinate, and direct the infection control program and its activities in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern such programs. To plan and implement surveillance, prevention, and control programs that are designed to enhance the quality and standard of resident care, as well as, similar programs to protect facility personnel from acquiring infectious diseases from residents and/or the work environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop, review, and revise infection control policies and procedures annually and/or as needed in response to community outbreaks.
  • Provide risk assessment and management
  • Must be knowledgeable regarding all new state and federal regulations regarding Infectious Diseases and all relevant regulations.
  • Be responsible for the direction, implementation, education of, and compliance with the Antibiotic Stewardship Program
  • Establish surveillance activities according to accepted standards. Identify, record, and report nosocomial infections based on chart review, resident observation (including infection site), microbiology reports, and input from professional staff.
  • Perform epidemiological functions by investigating outbreaks, identifying trends and clusters of infections, and evaluating relevant infection control practices.
  • Provide infection control programming for both staff education and resident education. Employee health programs will be coordinated as needs are identified.
  • Be a resource person and consultant in the establishment and maintenance of an environment that will reduce the possibility of nosocomial and employee infections.
  • Work with the appropriate departments to develop employee health screening and immunization procedures as well as guidelines for exposure to infectious diseases, prophylaxis, and management of infectious diseases.
  • Act as a liaison with employee health, local and State Boards of Health, and the Long Term Care Field Office.
  • Chair Infection Control Committee.
  • Develop and update, as needed, the Infection Control Plan according to Senate Bill No. 968 specifications.
  • Responsible for reporting healthcare-associated infection data to the Department of Health and the Patient Safety Authority as stipulated in Senate Bill No. 968.
  • Comply with department and facility procedures, fire prevention, and safety standards.
  • Conduct annual flu vaccine program for residents and staff.
  • Assist the Medical Director with pre-hire physicals and coordinate them with the Staff Development Coordinator.
  • TB surveillance of residents and staff.
  • Coordinate blood drives for the facility along with the American Red Cross.
  • Know and support the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Nursing Department.
  • Assign resident care responsibilities to nursing personnel based on residents' needs, available staff, and unit needs.
  • Work with other health care providers to ensure quality care, including transcribing physician's orders according to facility procedures.
  • Continually observe/monitor and evaluate the quality, quantity, and timeliness of nursing care.
  • Assess the need for modification of medical regimen and/or nursing care plan and ensure the clinical records are properly maintained.
  • Give resident care in emergencies to assess complex resident needs or teach nursing techniques to residents, staff, and/or family.
  • Administer medications and treatments as needed according to established policy and procedures.
  • Report falls, unusual occurrences, and significant changes in the resident's condition to the supervisor, physician, caseworker, and responsible party according to facility policy and procedures for notification.
  • Document according to requirements of all regulating bodies and facility policies
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Professionally give appropriate reports to the nurses on the next shift according to the requirements of the facility.
  • Seek consultation as needed from the supervisor.
  • Act as a role model for nursing assistants, licensed staff, and other personnel.

Required experience:

1. Must be a graduate from a school of practical nursing or RN approved by the NY State Board of Nurse Examiners and currently licensed 

2. Employment is contingent on successful completion of all pre-employment and criminal background checks as well as Sanction Checks with negative results.
