Position Summary:

Project leader for design, development, manufacturability, and ramp-up of custom and standard processes for contract manufacturing opportunities to meet customer product needs.

Available Shift(s): Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-4:00 pm

Responsibilities:

The Contract Manufacturing Services Division Project Manager is responsible for the full manufacturing process development ramp of die press, rotary, and laser-based manufacturing-related processes that meet customer's expectations and are within budget. The Project Manager has a leadership role in coordinating teams that design, develop, test, and install manufacturing processes that meet customer product specifications.

  • Evaluate a customer's purchase order agreements and requirements.
  • Develops estimated costs for proposed projects and improvements.
  • Participates in team selling activities and customer interface for manufacturing.
  • Develops and executes detailed project plans for approved products to meet forecast and ramp.
  • Coordinates both internal and external project review meetings and updates.
  • Provides technical and process support for all areas and supports problem areas.
  • Directs, coordinates and/or performs activities of the engineering team for full process development to meet customer specifications of the product design.
  • Communicate project status to the customer, Director of Operations and Project Management Group Manager.
  • Performs costing calculations, researches process alternatives, and performs cost analysis to meet or exceed expected cost and performance targets.
  • Manages the proper documentation of the project including costing, timing, layouts, bill of materials, routings, detailed fixture drawings, ECRs, etc.
  • Works closely with manufacturing and purchasing to ensure the design is manufacturable.
  • Works closely with Quality to design tests and analyze products to meet customer specifications.
  • Provides technical assistance to project team members during process development.
  • Directs and coordinates the activities of design and drafting help as assigned.
  • Special assignments as required.
  • Works closely with all project team members to communicate the status of the project.

The Contract Manufacturing Services Project Engineer is responsible for the financial performance of each project. The Project Engineer is also responsible for keeping projects on schedule, making every effort to ensure on-time delivery. In addition, the Project Engineer is expected to stay abreast of all relevant process and technology developments within the company and in the appropriate industrial sectors.

The Contract Manufacturing Services Project Manager Engineer is also responsible for Manufacturing Engineering activities when not assigned to equipment design projects. These activities include but are not limited to the following activities.

  • Develop estimated costs for proposed projects.
  • Develop and execute a specific phased project plan for each approved application.
  • Develop the process concept, proposal, budget, and timeline.
  • Coordinate personnel for process and technology development, process design, manufacture, test, documentation, installation, and service.
  • Assist Sales, Quality and Production on large/critical jobs to determine customer requirements and help launch production programs.
  • Regularly analyzes services provided for customers to develop new ways to better satisfy customer needs (new/different equipment, alternative work methods, improved quality/service, etc.).
  • Organizes and participates in Continuous Improvement efforts on production programs.
  • Understands Process Capability, Statistical Process Control and can apply to large/critical jobs
  • Design tooling/work holding for CMS jobs.
  • Writes technical quality and production procedures.
  • Assists in the coordination, compilation and analysis of test and inspection reports.
  • Visits customers at their facilities as needed.
  • Completes other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • Four-year engineering degree and a minimum of two years project engineering experience.
  • Minimum of ten years project engineering experience in lieu of degree. Experience related to machine tools is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience with effective customer communications relating to business, technical, and logistic matters.
  • Experience with leading multi-disciplinary teams whose members are provided from a matrix-type organization.
  • Experience with all phases of process development and manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver a product that meets the customer's expectations and is within budget.
  • Interested in working on processes for efficient methods and effective quality.
  • Demonstrated technical or process experience in at least two of the following areas:
  • Materials handling components such as dial tables, feeder bowls, pick-and-place mechanisms, and robots.
  • Automated material processing systems such as welding or cutting systems that process individual metallic parts.
  • Automated web and/or sheet converting systems for materials such as paper, plastic, fabric, and composite films.
  • Process knowledge relating to processing metallic, composite, or non-metallic materials.
  • Industrial controls and/or software experience that use personal computers (PC) or programmable logic controllers (PLC).
  • Tooling and fixture design for locating individual parts.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks, Word, and Excel.
  • Understanding of Lean Six Sigma and how to apply to manufacturing.
  • Experience related to machine tools or capital equipment is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience with effective customer communications relating to business, technical, and logistic matters.
  • Experience with leading multi-disciplinary teams whose members are provided from a matrix-type organization.
  • Experience with all phases of developing industrial equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver equipment that meets the customer's expectations and is within budget.
  • Knowledge of Solid Works, AutoCAD, and PC-based software for word processing, spreadsheets, project management, design, and manufacturing preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs., talking, hearing, and working alone 3-5 hours a day.
  • Walking and reading for 2-3 hours a day.
  • Standing, sitting, stooping, and crouching for up to 4 hours a day.
