Description

SUMMARY:

The Material Handler is responsible for the material for prepping and staging for next operation and for the machines to have the correct material per customer orders. In addition, they are responsible for cutting the material to the correct specs, so they can load the material on the machines and making deliveries to customers, picking up products from venders and running business related error. 

Material Handler Responsibilities:

  • Stage material at machines with the proper identification/traceability and get a count verification from machine setup person, keeping it separated from any other materials located at the same machine.
  • Ensure the proper handling of certain material that needs to be segregated and protected (e.g. copper)
  • Ensure full traceability is maintained on received items by using proper identification procedures, both physically and in the ERP and related systems. 
  • Use the ERP and the Dashboard systems to ensure all material requirements are fulfilled and staged appropriately. Leave communication notes as needed to ensure visibility to team members.
  • Inventory items will need to be inventoried through the ERP system, as well as physically tagged.
  • Follow all company policies.
  • Follow all Quality policies and procedures to ensure the output of your work and your team’s work, maintain the quality management system and continually improves its effectiveness.
  • Actively engage with the quality team to ensure the work you are producing is conforming to the customer, regulatory and statutory requirements
  • Ensure cycle counts are correct and communicated

Driving Responsibilities:

  • Drive to local customers and vendors to pick up and drop off parts 
  • Transfer parts and/or material with care and follow any instructions for special handling
  • Run errands for the company, including but not limited to: making deposits/withdrawals at the bank, picking up office supplies, picking up shop supplies, and taking shipments to FedEx or UPS
  • Keep the truck clean, inside and out
  • Take truck through a car wash approximately once every two weeks 
  • Perform monthly self-inspection on truck (fluid levels, tire pressure, tire wear, etc.)
  • Ensure fuel level never falls below ¼ of a tank

Saw Operation Responsibilities:

  • Operate the saw in accordance with company safety policies and applicable procedures
  • Handle with sensitivity and maintain organization and traceability of material that is staged for and/or comes off the saw
  • Log saw jobs in and out of the ERP system for appropriate routing step

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 6S Participation.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Participates in Customer, Regulatory Audits, and Manufacturing Floor Audits
  • Assist with on-the-job trainings that may take place in this department, including observations by colleagues.
  • Ensure you have completed all assigned trainings for your position per your training plan.
  • Assist teammates across all shifts as needed to ensure PSP achieves the set company goals.
  • Assist with or lead on-the-job trainings for other team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Valid drivers license and excellent driving record
  • Strong math and written skills
  • Strong computer skills: MS Office, in particular Excel, with ability to use supporting software
  • Strong project management skills
  • Prior work experience in Manufacturing is a plus
  • Excellent organization, multi-tasking, and time management skills
  • Problem solving, analytical skills 
  • Ability to work well in a team setting, as well as independently
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and adapt well to changes

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials up to 50 pounds. When on the manufacturing floor, safety glasses and closed-toe shoes are required (safety glasses are provided). Ear plugs are available and are optional when working around loud equipment. The dress code is business casual. Upon request, a company smock may be provided to those working on the manufacturing floor. Open food and drinks are strictly prohibited on the manufacturing floor, shipping area, and the quality department.
