Safety Technician - Special Assignment

Praxis Packaging Solutions, a leader in the secondary packaging industry, is searching for a Safety Technician - Special Assignment.

Position Summary:

-Special Project-

Responsible for Safetyactivities in and around Michigan facilities will inspect and evaluate theenvironment in working areas to ensure compliance with government safetyregulations and industry standards. Their chief goal is to protect theemployees, customers, and the environment. This position works with allsupervision and employees to ensure that cGMPs and Praxis SOPs, policies andwork instructions are being followed.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Support Safety Programs injunction with HR, Maintenance, Warehouse and Production leadership
• Facilitate and monitor required regulatory and corporate programs for the plant dealing with occupational safety and health (e.g., Hazard Communication, Control of Hazardous Energy, Confined Space Entry, Hot Work, Fall Protection, Machine Guarding, Industrial Hygiene, Hearing Conservation, Pedestrian Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, etc.)
• Investigates accidents, incidents, property damage, etc. to determine root causes
• Aids in Workers Compensation and Employee injury program
• Conducts audits and inspections to ensure effective implementation of safety programs
• Supports regulatory inspections
• Verifies compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations
• Provide accurate, timely, and concise reporting on KPI’s, driving performance and areas of opportunity
• Supports interim Safety Manager role when needed, running or attending meetings, completing investigations and workers compensation claims, making decisive decisions on key events, etc.
• Assist with Training, HR, Maintenance, Warehouse and Production safety related special projects
• As appropriate/assigned, retain and oversee vendors/contractors dealing with EHS issues.
• Helps maintain SDS information and tracking system
• Participates and leads the Safety Committee, providing guidance when needed
• Reviews and suggest improvements to safety program as needed
• Aid in the timely preparation of required reports to regulatory agencies as requested.
• Addresses complaints and problems, elevates to Leadership when needed
• Works to improve the effectiveness of the quality management system through the use of the quality policy, quality objectives, audit results, analysis of data, corrective and preventive actions
• Participates in coordination and execution of emergency drills
• Maintain spill kits ready to use
• Performs any otherfunctions and duties assigned and necessary while maintaining compliance, anyactivity is to be in concert with Operation, not to impede or obstruct them andefficient operation of Praxis Packaging Solutions.

Knowledge & Experience:

• Basic occupational health and safety knowledge
• Safety experience preferred
• Experience conducting and documenting inspections
• Experience working with and influencing various levels of employees with different educational backgrounds, work style habits, and employment histories.

Computer/CommunicationSkills:

• Strong writing skills and documentation practices
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work independently and proactively
• Working knowledge of MS Office programs: Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to present training topics to small or medium sized groups
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, andprocedure manuals
