Summary
Job Summary: Prepares strategic plan with short- and long-range goals to meet institutional funding objectives, and enlists support from members of institution staff, the governing body, and volunteer organizations. Appoints, leads, evaluates, and manages development staff. Establishes development policies, systems, and procedures. Directs the development and submission of grant proposals for funds from private foundations, corporations, and government agencies with staff support. Maintains file of current grants in progress, complies with reporting, filing returns, and position statement as required by grants. Identifies potential contributors for special project funds and ongoing operations through examination of past records, individual and corporate contracts, and knowledge of community. Plans and coordinates fund drives for special projects. Assigns responsibilities for personal solicitation to members of staff, volunteer organizations, and governing body according to special interests or capabilities. Develops public relations materials to enhance institution image and promote fund raising programs. Annually organizes direct mail campaigns to reach potential contributors, i.e. Festival of Lights and Spring Fund Drive. Plans and coordinates benefit events such as banquets, balls, or auctions. Develops donor recognition programs. Organizes solicitation drives for pledges of ongoing support from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Informs potential contributors of special needs of institution, and encourages individuals, corporations, and foundations to establish or contribute to special funds through endowments, trusts, donations of gifts-in-kin, or bequests, conferring with attorneys to establish methods of transferring funds to benefit both donors and institution. Maintains records of contributors and grants. Prepares letters of appreciation to be sent to all contributors. Secures and/or purchases and maintains a current mailing list of potential donors. Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in maintaining records of contributions, grants and letters of appreciation. Negotiates agreements with representatives to other organizations for exchange of information and cooperative programs.
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university; or one (1) to three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer Skills: Fundraising software (DonorPerfect), Microsoft Office software, Internet software, E-mail.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises staff and volunteers.
