Job Description:
Provides direct and indirect care to medical oncology and hematology clinic patients utilizing the nursing processes in providing patient care. Prepares VAD/IV access for chemotherapy delivery, lab draws, and/or hydration. Reinforces education on chemotherapy, medication side effects, disease processes, and symptom management. Builds chemotherapy care plans and regimens per physician order. Performs medication administration including but not limited to (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hydration, blood, etc.) and technical skills within the scope of practice. Performs duties such as answering the phones, placing calls, scheduling, order entry, and obtaining old records. Prepares patient charts for upcoming visits to ensure all results are available to include utilizing the electronic health record. Triages patient telephone calls for medical providers. Coordinates and assists with discharge instructions, follow-up care, diagnostic testing, procedures, and medication instructions. Performs insurance authorizations.
Must be licensed in the State of South Dakota as a registered nurse or eligible for licensure.
Certification in oncology and chemotherapy administration is preferred. Two years of nursing experience are required.
Oncology or infusion experience is desirable.
