Overview

At PowerPlan, we’re passionate about making it easy for our customers to use our software and provide them with data and tools to make day-to-day decisions. As a Sr. Product Manager, you fill a critical position responsible for developing our world-class solution for Project and Fixed Asset Accounting that enables our users to make the right financial decisions.

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Product Manager to lead the development, strategy, and delivery of our complex accounting software. The ideal candidate should possess a diverse set of skills, ranging from problem-solving and technical ability to a deep understanding of Project & Asset Accounting principles and effective cross-functional collaboration.

You will work closely with Customers, Sales, Services, Marketing, and Engineering teams to construct product roadmaps and define detailed product specifications. You must have a deep understanding of the PowerPlan Product Suite, or Project and Asset Accounting for Utilities. You must be a creative problem solver with keen attention to detail, craft detailed designs and effectively communicate with the Engineering, PO and UX peers, and other internal stakeholders. The successful candidate will lead collaborations efficiently and effectively with the current Product Management teams and other cross-functional stakeholders. They lead by influencing and evangelizing the product roadmap for new and/or enhanced functionality that solves the market, strategic, and competitive needs.

Responsibilities

Be a Product Leader

    • Proficient at building and managing legacy and SaaS software with Agile and Scrum methodologies and facilitate efficient product development processes
    • Experience with legacy enterprise software architecture and the unique challenges associated with developing and managing complex software solutions for large organizations
    • Ability to articulate complex problems and derive efficient and meaningful solutions by breaking it down and translating it into meaningful product components and features
    • Contribute to the solution’s commercial success through operational readiness planning across the 4 Ps (Product, Price, Place, Promotion)

Be the Problem-solver and Strategic thinker - Building and deliver complex solutions for Project and Asset Accounting for Utilities

      • Collaborate with user experience, product teams, R&D, and other internal stakeholders to translate complex customer needs into requirements
      • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to make informed and timely decisions that aligns with the overall product strategy and development priorities
      • Ability to learn and conduct market research to understand customer needs, competitive landscapes, and emerging trends in the accounting software industry.
      • Foster a collaborative and innovative work culture within the team and across the organization

Be the Voice of the Customer - Work collaboratively with user experience and product development teams to design and deliver product capabilities that meet customer and market requirements

        • Engage closely with customers and internal stakeholders to prioritize, author/validate requirements for creating features that solves key customer problems that deliver high value in new and legacy systems
        • Collaborate with design teams to enhance the usability and user experience of the accounting software when building enhancements and the next gen solutions; conduct user discovery, design validations, user testing sessions, running beta programs, etc.
        • Analyze, and report on the progress of the project and recommend adjustments to development plans as needed to facilitate a successful product rollout

Be the Product Evangelist - Inform customers, internal Services, Sales, and Marketing Teams through storytelling, documentation and training sessions

          • Provide clear communication to Sales, Services, and Marketing Teams about new product features and the value they provide
          • Own internal training sessions, user group meetings, marketing event presentations, writing articles, etc.
          • Highly desired - A thought leader and represent PowerPlan at industry conferences, events, and webinars
          • Lead advisory boards and other respective forums to gather intelligence, feedback, and design validations

Own the Regulatory Compliance Product Conformance - Understand the importance of utility accounting regulatory compliance and stay abreast of industry standards and evaluate placement and positioning into Product and Service

          • Solicit feedback from customers and industry experts to understand the impact of regulatory changes, understand their needs, and prioritize the solutions needed
          • Coordinate with internal cross-functional stakeholders to timely deliver compliance-ready solutions, alongside communication and delivery approaches

Qualifications

An Ideal Candidate Has:

  • 5 years in software product management, utility industry consulting or comparable role
  • Skilled in using Agile/Scrum or similar methodologies and building SaaS applications
  • Adept at running commercial strategy for a SaaS application
  • Excellent communication skills: written, verbal and formal presentation to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Good time-management skills to work in a fast-paced environment
  • In-depth knowledge of PowerPlan Accounting Suite or Project and Asset Accounting Principles and regulatory compliance

Bonus If they Have:

  • Utility and Energy industry experience is a BIG plus
  • Experience with other enterprise or accounting software
  • Has experience working for/with IOUs
  • Familiarity with the Pragmatic Marketing Framework is a plus

Please note that this is a hybrid role that involves a combination of onsite work from our corporate office as well as work from home. While we strive to accommodate flexible working arrangements when sensible, there will be times when onsite work is required.
