Pottawatomie County is Hiring a Zoning Compliance Inspector Near Westmoreland, KS

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Pottawatomie County Zoning Administrator, the Zoning Compliance Inspector is a full-time, non-exempt position under FLSA. The goal of this position is to review and follow-up on zoning and other permitting actions to assure compliance with County regulations (Unified Development Regulations), the inspection and investigation of Conditional Use Permit (CUP) conditions and requirements, zoning and subdivision regulation violations, adherence to site plan requirements, and other functions necessary to assist in the operation of the office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (required):

  1. Assures adherence with all zoning, subdivision, conditional uses, site plans and variances, approved by the office and / or by the Pottawatomie County Planning Commission or Board of Zoning Appeals;
  2. Review, process and issue building and sign permits, and assure compliance with permitting regulations;
  3. Create and / or update various databases, documents, maps or forms essential to the operation of the office;
  4. Investigate zoning complaints and violations, determine validity of reported violations, notify potential violators, and seek compliance through informal or formal enforcement;
  5. Provide effective written and oral communication to staff and public;
  6. Maintain accurate record of work by documenting all violations, complaints, or correspondence by recording or filing the data for future reference;
  7. Perform inspections of mobile home parks, RV parks and detention ponds for annual licensing. Review any complaints or violations to determine if licensing shall not be renewed or revoked;
  8. Advise the public, businesses or other agencies on zoning, subdivision and floodplain regulations and procedures;
  9. Codes and licensing;
  10. Regular and predictable attendance required;
  11. Ensures positive relations with public and staff;
  12. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license;
  13. Other related duties as necessary or appropriate, as determined by the Zoning Administrator.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

A thorough knowledge of computers and office equipment is essential. Mathematical aptitude is required. Must be adept with Microsoft Office Suite products, with the ability to create and maintain documents, spreadsheets and databases. Ability to use and maintain projects created with ArcMap recommended. Employee shall have the ability to read and interpret subdivision plats, surveys, legal descriptions, site plans and written instructions. Employee shall also possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

A high school diploma, GED or graduation from a vocational school is required, supplemented by college or university course work in a related field is preferred. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, ability and skills may be accepted. Possession of a valid Kansas Driver’s License is essential.

Must have and maintain a clean driving record for this position. A “clean” record is defined as: No misdemeanor or felony convictions for traffic/vehicular offenses (such as but not limited to DUI, vehicular homicide, reckless driving, hit and run, etc.) that are less than five (5) years old; no more than two (2) at fault or chargeable accidents that are less than five (5) years old; no more than two (2) traffic infractions (such as but not limited to speeding, failure to yield right of way, etc.) that are less than one year old.
